About The Position

Battelle is seeking a QA Inspector to support its Applied Science and Technology group in Columbus, Ohio. This role is crucial for the conceptual design, development, and manufacturing of armored commercial vehicles and other prototype work. The selected candidate will be responsible for performing inspections of complex fabricated parts and assemblies, supporting quality engineering activities, and contributing to continuous improvement in safety, efficiency, and quality within a defense manufacturing environment.

Requirements

• Associate degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in a related field
• Minimum of 5 years of experience with quality inspection of complex fabricated parts
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and understand engineering drawings, inspection procedures, and work instructions
• Working knowledge of measurement methodologies and techniques, including the use of fixtures and measurement tools to set up parts and perform inspections
• Experience using an electronic enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to transact materials into and out of Quality and to research part status inquiries
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office suite
• Strong attention to detail with excellent oral and written communication skills
• Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a US government security clearance

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience working in an ISO 9001 quality production environment
• Experience working within the US military or US defense contractor environment
• Experience with and understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• ASQ Certified Quality Inspector credential
• Experience using a FARO arm to perform inspections

Responsibilities

• Performing inspection of complex fabricated parts using hand tools such as calipers, height gauges, tape measures, micrometers, and angle gauges
• Inspecting welded parts to defined quality standards and performing in-process and final visual and functional inspections of products
• Developing inspection instructions for complex fabricated parts and assemblies with input from engineering
• Mentoring other QA staff in inspection techniques and procedures
• Reporting on quality trends to engineering to ensure containment and recommending corrective measures as appropriate
• Supporting quality engineering in investigating supplier and assembly issues and recommending corrective measures
• Identifying and supporting implementation of improvements to safety, efficiency, and quality
• Recording and recommending preliminary disposition of nonconforming material in an electronic system
• Supporting additional program activities such as the calibration program, internal audits, and safety program
• Maintaining inspection records for review and operating under general guidance from management
