About The Position

Blue Robotics is looking for a Quality Inspector to join their production team building underwater vehicles, thrusters, lights, sensors, and other robotic components. The Quality Inspector will examine components that will be used in various applications such as exploring shipwrecks, studying endangered species, and mapping the ocean floor. The quality team is driven to deliver excellence in every product, and the Quality Inspectors are expected to notice small details and speak up about potential issues or inconsistencies. Quality Inspectors work efficiently and independently for the majority of the day, collaborating with the team to share findings after inspections or investigations. The company is pursuing the highest standards of reliability and excellence and collecting data throughout the process. While manufacturing experience is a plus, candidates with experience in a machine shop, healthcare setting, or as a field technician installing equipment are also encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, accustomed to updating notes in a computer program, independent, and has a sense of urgency.

Requirements

  • Strong documentation and recordkeeping skills
  • Highly observant and able to identify and escalate quality issues
  • 1+ year experience using measuring instruments
  • 1+ year experience reading technical drawings
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet programs (such as Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet, Google Sheets)
  • Proficiency with Google apps (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, etc)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Thrives on routine and maintaining consistency
  • Basic math skills, including measurement conversions and tolerance calculations
  • Proactive communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Manufacturing experience
  • Experience in a machine shop, healthcare setting, or as a field technician installing equipment
  • 1+ year experience in a QA role in manufacturing setting
  • Experience with wiring cables and soldering PCB
  • Understanding Quality Management Systems (QMS)
  • Familiarity with 5S principles
  • Worked in a Lean Manufacturing Environment
  • Basic knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Basic understanding of Coordinate-measuring Machine (CMM), part fixturing and measurement strategy planning

Responsibilities

  • Performing a range of varied inspection tasks including in-process and end-of-line quality inspections on all Blue Robotics products.
  • Using measuring tools (calipers, micrometer, voltmeter, and etc.) and test equipment as necessary.
  • Working independently to review and inspect products, materials and assemblies. (Approx. 70% of the time.)
  • Working within your team to create quality reports, complete timely inspections, and implement process and quality improvements. (Approx. 30% of the time.)
  • Reading and following written and verbal work instructions.
  • Reporting issues clearly and proactively to supervisors and team members.
  • Occasionally performing investigations on products returned by customers to identify root causes of failures.
  • Digital file organization, updating dashboards and entering QA data.
  • Supporting the Engineering team as needed.
  • Helping with other projects as necessary.
