About The Position

Quality Inspectors are responsible for inspecting, testing, verifying, and validating product and product packaging to ensure only acceptable product is shipped according to customer specifications and/or governing party standards and requirements. They are tasked with isolating unacceptable product for repacking or scrap and must be committed to SQF, GMP, and Food Safety.

Requirements

  • Stationary standing: 75% of the shift.
  • Walking: 50% of the shift.
  • Touching/Handling Product: 100% of the shift.
  • Sitting: 50% of the shift.
  • Using Controls/Tools: 10% of the shift.
  • Reaching-(Hand & Arm): 75% of the shift.
  • Shifting/Twisting/Rotating core: 75% of the shift.
  • Climb or Balances: 5% of the shift.
  • Stoop, Kneel, Crouch or Crawl: 10% of the shift.
  • Talk or hear: 100% of the shift.
  • Smell: 5% of the shift.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds/Max.
  • Employees may wear corrective lenses (with protective safety over glasses) PPE or use our Safety Prescription Program.
  • Must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Good math, reading, and writing skills.
  • Some computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Quality control experience in a manufacturing setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all plant policies and procedures including Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Documentation Practices and Safety Rules.
  • Perform quality checks on all lines three times per shift, and as needed.
  • Possess a well-rounded knowledge of quality on all products; must be able to identify and isolate any quality or food safety concerns.
  • Communicate within department and with Production/Warehouse/Maintenance regarding any problems or issues that need to be addressed as required.
  • Ensure that First Piece Inspections (FPI) are done in a timely manner and that the Quality Docket at line is correct and being followed.
  • Perform product testing as needed.
  • Operate the INSTRON machine for compression testing on all applicable finished products.
  • Use and read measurement devices such as gram scale, dial indicator, micrometer and/or calipers.
  • Perform checks on measurement devices to ensure accuracy prior to use.
  • Perform minor troubleshooting as needed.
  • Perform receiving inspection of incoming poly and KD supplies as needed.
  • Thoroughly and accurately complete all required paperwork and documentation.
  • Perform weekly or monthly inspections as assigned.
  • Responsible for First Piece Approvals (FPA) and to supply the machine with the proper inspection material, i.e. Product Data Cards.
  • Perform static checks as required.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Perform Ash testing on foam sheet extrusion samples using the furnace.
  • Perform Moist testing of APET material using KF Titrator.
  • Perform receiving inspections of incoming poly supplies.
  • Test applicable products for leaks, lid-fit, and strength at the prescribed frequency.
  • Comply with all safety rules, regulations, and policy procedures.
  • Report any unsafe practices and/or conditions to their Supervisor.
  • Maintain floor safety discipline by interceding with fellow employees who may engage in rule violations and/or unsafe, unhealthy activities.
  • Communicate to Management those employees who persist in violations of safety rules and/or procedures.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) properly and report any defective PPE.
  • Report all near misses, accidents, injuries, including Muscular Skeletal symptoms or disorders.
