About The Position

Conducts routine inspection of materials and machined components as required and determines conformance to specification. Assists the Quality Engineers, Quality Manager or Department Managers in conducting timely first piece, in-process, and final inspections to determine conformance to specifications, Quality Plans or other customer requirements as directed. Uses blueprints, Quality Plans, sampling, and inspection procedures for both automotive and nonautomotive products as required. Participates in special product and process studies as directed by the Department Manager, Quality Manager, Quality Engineers, and Group Leader. Utilizes standard industry inspection equipment to conduct product and process inspections as required. Must accurately prepare various inspection reports as required to document inspection results and identify all non-conformances. Prepares internal non-conformance reports and segregates all identified nonconforming products in accordance with company procedures. Carries out other general responsibilities as required by Department Manager, Quality Manager, site management and group leader. Participates in customer visits and audits as required. May also participate in product design reviews and resolution of customer complaints as required. May assist in product and process studies as required. Participates in continuous improvement activities within the inspection area or other areas of the plant.

Requirements

  • Capable of using standard inspection equipment contained within the department.
  • Use of automated inspection devices, CMM's, Vision Systems and special gages including customer supplied gages.
  • Understands the basics of blueprint interpretation, GD&T, and can provide assistance to others inside and outside the department in understanding proper inspection technique.
  • Understands the basics of statistical process control and can monitor processes that utilize this technique.
  • Conducts full first article inspections on complex multi-print components and subassemblies.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to program CMM's, Vision Systems and other automated inspection devices desired.
  • Certified Mechanical Inspector (desired).
  • Actively continuing training through, courses and seminars as required (desired).
