About The Position

The Clinical Staff Office (CSO) at UI Health Care has an opening for a full-time Quality Improvement Engineer. This position will lead, coordinate and operationalize activities related to privileging and credentialing, and provide support to UI HealthCare and the CSO with administrative, functional, and technical tasks related to the maintenance of the privileging and credentialing database. General duties include but are not limited to oversight of data entry, maintaining databases, and reporting functions. This staff member will be responsible for planning and oversight of processes related to the processes and IT functions supported by the CSO and the Credentialing software application, including training users. The Clinical Staff Office provides Credentialing Verification Organization (CVO) services for UI Health Care, Stead Family Children’s Hospital, and numerous UI Health Care Outreach clinics, external clients, managed care payers, State agencies, Colleges, and Student Health Centers (both in-state and out-of-state). This includes obtaining and authenticating sensitive information and interpreting numerous sets of accrediting bodies’ standards and UI Health Care Bylaws, Rules & Regulations. Direct patient care practitioners are delineated privileges by the UI Health Care Clinical Systems Committee, and are not able to see, touch, or bill for patient services until these credentialing and verification processes have been completed in full.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Health Administration, Business Administration or an equivalent combination of education/experience in a related field is required.
  • Three to five years’ experience working in a credentialing database in a Medical Staff Office or CVO is required.
  • The ability to analyze and report data using a variety of metrics and tools to generate accurate and timely information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with the following data analysis tools: Epic Reporting, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power BI, and Outlook is highly desirable.
  • Two years of data analytics experience and demonstrated ability to use data to drive change is highly desirable.
  • Two years of experience in utilizing and maintaining databases, including experience with medical terminology is desirable.
  • Demonstrated success in change management implementation preferred.
  • One to three years Project Management experience is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in statistical presentations is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead operational improvement teams as needed.
  • Be accountable to ensure projects are managed through entire life cycle (or to endpoint as directed by the CSO Director) within approved scope, schedule and budget.
  • Assists with multiple executive projects assigned by the CSO Director. These projects will vary in focus based on operational and Credentialing software improvements.
  • Responsible for supporting the creation of sustainable quality/performance improvement educational activities for departmental staff, APP leads or physicians (Programs may include credentialing software Orientation, reporting orientation, etc.)
  • Conduct basic and advanced analyses prioritize and drive change to improve processes, performance, and outcomes.
  • Be innovative and suggest key actions and strategic implications.
  • Develop, and assist in execution of improved processes to allow for routine analytical reviews of operational performance.
  • Work collaboratively with CSO team and departments to identify and improve issues including, but not limited to, credentialing application delays, Delineation of Privilege (DOP) form submission delays, and credentialing application processing delays.
  • Assists the CSO Director in process improvements in specific areas (based on the needs of UI Health Care). This includes evaluation of present process through data collection and interpretation, determining improvement strategies, and assists in implementation of improvements throughout UI Health Care.
  • Assures the security, integrity, and confidentiality of the data housed within the Credentialing software database in accordance with system and/or hospital policies.
  • Assists in the development, integration and optimization of data entry of the Credentialing software system in accordance with operational policies and procedures.
  • Assists with the development/implementation and/or revision of credentialing and recredentialing workflows or credentialing related forms to ensure efficient and effective alignment of processes.
  • Serve as project manager for all new systems or Credentialing software enhancements.
  • Troubleshoot software issues and consults with Credentialing software IT personnel for all hardware/software issues or changes and provide information and support as requested by users.
  • Manage privilege data entry process in the Credentialing software after Clinical Systems Committee (CSC).
  • Assist departments on Delineation of Privileges form revisions.
  • Optimize reporting tools for the credentialing and privileging process.
  • Manage the Application Intake process.
  • Manage the Initial/Increased Professional Practice Evaluation (IPPE) process and assure timely completion of and storage of forms according to policy.
  • Drives process improvement by maintaining departmental communications to sustain forward progress.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of novel communication strategies to support the missions of UI Health Care.
  • Serves as Leader/Manager of assigned projects.
  • Collaborates with the CSO Director, Credentialing software liaison, and other institutional leaders to accomplish assigned projects.
  • Serves as a liaison between the CSO, Credentialing software and IT and departmental contacts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
