About The Position

The Quality Improvement Coordinator is the member of the health center leadership team responsible for assuring that patients consistently receive high-quality and equitable healthcare services in alignment with organizational population health goals. The Quality Improvement Coordinator is responsible for driving improvement projects that lead to better patient health outcomes. This position reports directly to the Business Director at a health centers but has a matrix relationship with Population Health leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) from four-year college or university in public health, health administration, or related field and master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of six (6) months of applied healthcare quality improvement experience (for QI Coordinator I).
  • A minimum of two (2) years of applied healthcare quality improvement experience (for QI Coordinator II).
  • Equivalent education and experience accepted.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures/reports/documents, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence and speak effectively in front of groups of employees and clients.
  • Work situations are broadly defined, complex and diverse, occasionally unprecedented. Problems have many dimensions and range from innovative thinking in one area to related fields of specialization. Consequences normally evaluated use more formal analytical, planning or process methods and strategies developed for action.
  • Ability to understand basic statistics to help guide and measure improvement projects.
  • Ability to think critically about root cause of quality gaps to inform new projects.
  • Demonstrated operating knowledge of computers.
  • Intermediate/Advanced level ability with Word, Outlook and other required software programs.
  • Intermediate skills in Excel or other data analysis software like Power BI (for QI Coordinator I).
  • Advanced skills in Excel or other data analysis software like Power BI (for QI Coordinator II).
  • Comfortable working in a remote environment.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common industry related journals, financial reports, and legal documents (for QI Coordinator II).
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business (for QI Coordinator II).
  • Ability to speak effectively in front of a leadership audience (for QI Coordinator II).
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems (for QI Coordinator II).
  • Work situations are vaguely defined, often unprecedented, and unique in character. Problems are very complex, abstract, conceptual, and long-term in nature. There is a continual requirement for strategic, innovative thought and synthesis of information as it pertains to work situations (for QI Coordinator II).

Nice To Haves

  • Quality improvement professional certification or a quality improvement certification from Institute for HealthCare improvement or equivalent formal education and training (like a master’s degree in a related field) is preferred but not required.
  • Lean certifications preferred but not required.
  • A Quality Improvement certification or other formal education from a nationally recognized healthcare quality program OR a Lean certification is required (for QI Coordinator II).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of health center leadership team as a quality improvement and population health expert and champion.
  • Work closely with Population Health leadership in a matrix management relationship.
  • Understand and inform organizational quality goals and approaches.
  • Analyze, understand, and improve healthcare systems and health outcomes.
  • Use a quality improvement methodology like Institute for Healthcare Improvement Model or Lean to bring structure to improvement work.
  • Interface directly with health care providers and team members to drive systems improvement.
  • Report on progress toward quality goals at both the health center and organizational level via presentations, publications, and conversations.
  • Facilitate meetings and discussions around healthcare quality.
  • Participate and serve as a member of a larger network of quality improvement experts across the organization to collect successful interventions and work toward developing approaches that inform standard workflows across the organization.
  • Serve as the health center expert in quality related data collection, analysis and turning data into information for action.
  • Support health center staff to access population health technology and information and coordinate services for high-risk patients.
  • Serve as health center coach for healthcare improvement and process improvement methodologies.
  • Support quality improvement projects as needed.
  • Stay up to date on current thinking related to health care quality, health care disparities, and health equity issues by attending webinars, community meetings and other conferences as identified by business directors.
  • Mentor and coach Quality Improvement Coordinator Is and/or other staff supporting quality initiatives across health centers.
  • Serve a larger population of patients, potentially working across multiple sites.
  • Participate in organizational quality improvement projects.
  • Represent HealthPoint externally at quality conferences.
  • Manage grants as needed.
  • Communicate to organization.
