About The Position

Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD) is a mission-driven, honor-bound company that designs, develops, and delivers the best naval power technology. As a leading marine defense contractor, FMD supports U.S. and Canadian naval fleets with reliable power systems, parts, and aftermarket services. Federal Equipment Company (FEC), now part of FMD, is a growing supplier of marine deck machinery and specialized weapons and material handling systems. This role is for a Quality Engineering Supervisor who will provide leadership and direction to a team, oversee quality processes, and ensure product quality and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience demonstrating technical engine knowledge.
  • A minimum of 3+ years of quality or process experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven leadership experience with direct reports.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including research and application of quality tools.
  • Advanced understanding of process control implementation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Action-oriented with the ability to build strong working relationships at all organizational levels, internally and externally.
  • Proficiency in blueprint reading, including weld symbology and GD&T.
  • Skilled in using modern office software and applications.
  • Proficiency in using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and more.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and analyze data to resolve manufacturing challenges.
  • Good visual acuity, including color perception.
  • Ability to safely lift or handle items up to 35 pounds without a lifting device.
  • Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship and certify that they do not hold dual citizenship.
  • Access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NOFORN) requires specific citizenship and security clearance considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction to develop and enhance team competencies.
  • Assign tasks and evaluate the performance of team members.
  • Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective actions to address and eliminate internal and external sources of scrap and rework.
  • Oversee Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities for new programs and parts.
  • Drive timely resolution of non-conformance reports.
  • Develop, document, and implement process controls to ensure product quality and compliance with requirements.
  • Coordinate customer and third-party observed inspections.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely submission of quality records to customers.
  • Analyze quality system processes and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
