About The Position

This internship focuses on building Python scripts and tools to ensure the optimal performance of LineVision’s IoT sensor network. The intern will apply computer science skills to a real reliability engineering challenge, developing automated health monitoring tools and analyzing telemetry data from a deployed sensor network. Working closely with the Quality Lead, the intern will contribute to ensuring LineVision's sensor network delivers reliable data to utility customers while gaining experience in reliability and quality engineering practices within a rapidly growing technology company. The role is part of a collaborative Quality team at LineVision, recognized as a Built In Best Places to Work in Boston for three consecutive years.

Requirements

  • Python or SQL experience through coursework or projects; comfortable writing scripts to automate tasks or query datasets.
  • Excellent attention to detail when monitoring systems, investigating issues, and documenting findings for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Project management abilities to track multiple device issues simultaneously, prioritize escalations, and drive resolution with cross-functional teams.
  • Initiative and curiosity to dig into problems, ask clarifying questions, and propose improvements to quality monitoring processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Tableau, data visualization tools, or similar business intelligence tools for building dashboards.

Responsibilities

  • Own improvement of device health processes, writing Python scripts and building automated tools to monitor sensor uptime, parse telemetry logs, and flag anomalies at scale.
  • Monitor daily device health across LineVision's sensor network, conducting uptime and visibility checks to identify and escalate issues requiring Engineering or Operations support.
  • Lead weekly device health syncs, creating Jira tickets for issues and coordinating site visit escalations when field interventions are needed.
  • Query device telemetry data using SQL, perform investigative analyses, and build dashboards to enable data-driven decisions on device reliability improvements.
  • Collaborate with Hardware Engineering and Operations teams to investigate device issues and implement corrective actions.
