The Quality Engineer is responsible for conducting ongoing analysis of the production process inputs and outputs to ensure that customer (internal and external) quality requirements are being achieved. Requirements

  • Associate degree from a 2- or 4-year college
  • 5 Years in related experience and/or training
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college or university
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the “Safe Launch” process, including receiving product requirements from APQP QE, completing quality system documentation, dimensional data, GP-12 support, and packaging/labeling for MRD parts shipment.
  • Support the “Safe Launch” process by providing plant communication for formal tooling buy-off, including Run at Rate support and documentation for die/welder readiness.
  • Prepare all PPAP documentation for submission.
  • Be responsible for all plant-level quality concerns for assigned products and serve as the direct point of contact for customer complaints.
  • Manage the Quality System for all changes after launch.
  • Obtain “Master Samples” from the 300-piece initial production run for Program archiving of Part Quality at the start of production.
  • Update Control Plans & FMEA as issues arise from the floor or customer.
  • Issue Product Quality Check Deviations following management direction.
  • Provide timely acknowledgement responses to customer complaints and formal documentation PRR/HTR responses to the customer.
  • Be present at assembly plants to provide face-to-face interaction, ensure customer satisfaction, and develop relationships.
  • Understand how each part is utilized in the vehicle build and become the “expert” regarding customer expectations.
  • Provide plant management with the “voice of the customer” and explain key part attributes and their importance.
  • Train plant-level quality auditors and production team leaders on part-to-part concerns, inspection methodology, and customer expectations.
  • Direct Quality Technicians to provide supporting product quality documentation (Part Picture Visuals, Packaging Instructions, Gage Instructions, Quality Alerts, etc.) and floor support.
  • Provide plant with priorities for part improvement, stressing continuous improvement.
  • Address plant floor quality concerns, provide timely opinions for acceptability, and assist management with part disposition decisions.
  • Champion problem control meetings for customer complaints, ensuring attendees are accountable for their responsibilities.
  • Monitor daily part quality, spend time on the floor checking parts, and audit product and process to verify customer requirements are met.
  • Participate in layered process audits.
  • Implement new methods of inspection and control when required (e.g., enhanced containment techniques, SPC data, scheduled CMM runs or Roamer scans).
  • Support all QSB+ and TS requirements associated with assigned part responsibilities.
