Quality Engineer

MeterSan Francisco, CA
Onsite

About The Position

At Meter, quality is a core value, not just a checkbox. This role is crucial for ensuring that every wireless product, specifically access points, performs flawlessly for customers who rely on them for critical infrastructure in offices, warehouses, and campuses. The Quality Engineer will lead the validation of Wireless Access Points, guaranteeing seamless performance and stability in diverse environments, directly impacting the speed and confidence with which Meter can ship networks. Meter aims to build better, more reliable networks from the ground up, designing and building its own enterprise hardware, intuitive software, and streamlined operations. The company serves ambitious organizations like Bridgewater, Lyft, and Reddit, providing a definitive networking stack to enable businesses to operate seamlessly and reliably, much like a modern utility.

Requirements

  • Fascination with how wireless networks behave, including the physics, RF environment challenges, edge cases, and the satisfaction of seeing a client roam perfectly between APs.
  • Bring both curiosity and discipline to work, chasing down anomalies until understood completely.
  • Belief in doing things right: testing deeply, measuring everything, taking a data-driven approach, and helping build products you can be proud of.
  • Care about making Wi-Fi invisible - fast, reliable, and something users never have to think about.
  • Experience testing enterprise Wi-Fi products (controllers, APs or Wi-Fi 6/6E/7 systems).
  • Deep understanding of 802.11 protocols, roaming (k/v/r), and channel/power optimization.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (VLANs, DHCP, security protocols).
  • Hands-on experience with traffic generation and performance tools (iPerf, IxChariot, Candela).

Responsibilities

  • Own and scale the release process for AP firmware, including executing functionality, performance, scale, and features tests across diverse topologies and conditions.
  • Build a scalable, automated, and repeatable test framework and lab that allows Meter to confidently ship wireless firmware releases within hours, not days.
  • Lead feature and regression testing for Wi-Fi firmware releases.
  • Design and execute tests for functionality, features, throughput, and scale.
  • Build and maintain RF environments using tools like Candela, Ixia Chariot, OctoBox, or equivalent frameworks.
  • Work closely with developers to debug and isolate complex wireless issues.
  • Collaborate with automation engineers to integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Analyze data and publish metrics for every release.

Benefits

  • Eligible to participate in Meter's equity plan.
