About The Position

The Quality Engineer oversees all quality-related activities for manufactured products at DTTP, products procured from sister plants, and products/accessories from third-party vendors. This role is responsible for the continuous improvement of product quality and adherence to procedures to ensure consistency. The Quality Engineer reviews quality standards, tolerances, and engineering changes, evaluating them for existing products, outsourced parts, processes, subassemblies, and new products. They analyze engineering specifications and manufacturing processes for new products, develop test plans and quality testing equipment, and monitor warranty reports to drive improvement initiatives. This position investigates and analyzes complex quality problems, recommends solutions, and ensures corrections are implemented.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in quality engineering or related field.
  • Significant experience in HVAC or similar manufacturing.
  • Proven track record of driving quality improvements.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or related field).
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and leadership qualities.
  • Ability to create a shared vision, a structured plan, and convincing arguments to motivate and lead interdepartmental team members and gain their collaboration in the pursuit of a common goal or project to effectively and timely complete all needed tasks.
  • Expert-level knowledge of HVAC systems, manufacturing processes, and industry standards, including emerging technologies and trends or of similar industry.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects and activities with a high level of urgency by using the PDCA approach to deliver quick but effective results.
  • Ability to convert data into actionable information and effectively communicate to senior leadership by utilizing statistical methods to characterize and analyze data to find potential solutions to problems and facilitate decision-making.
  • Familiar with data analysis tools, such as Minitab, Excel (pivot tables), Tableau, MAPICS, etc.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to effectively identify root causes of quality problems and drive multidisciplinary teams to find and execute solutions by utilizing DMAIC, 6 sigma methods, FMEA, 8 Disciplines, lean methods, etc.
  • Solid skills in Engineering standards/drawing interpretation.
  • Excellent communication skills, including presentation development, meeting organization/facilitation, clear conveyance & transmission of information through written & verbal form.
  • Proven ability to create business cases for quality issues.
  • Advanced knowledge in quality management systems (QMS) and APQP/PPAP.
  • Advanced project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and strategic planning skills.
  • Ability to apply good judgment, strong work ethic, and integrity on the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree (Engineering, Quality Management, or related field).
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or equivalent certification.
  • Knowledge of Design Of Experiment (DOE) and utilizing ANOVA and regression is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management System (QMS) such as ISO 9001.
  • Identifying and managing reliability risks that can cause a stoppage and delay of business operations.
  • Working knowledge of product safety and how to monitor during the product development.
  • Able to drive culture of The Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) throughout the project.
  • Advanced level of knowledge in quality management systems with solid technical background (HVAC preference), to drive supplier quality improvements.
  • Advanced Product Quality Planning and Production Part Approval Process or similar process.

Responsibilities

  • Be the chief advocate for manufacturing operations and end customers, ensuring new products are launched at a higher quality level than current products.
  • Track and communicate the current state of product launches and the performance of launched products using established metrics.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement and assure product quality through standards adherence.
  • Oversee and drive Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) related to quality issues affecting DTTP operations, in coordination with Tech Services, Quality Control, Reliability, Warranty Analytics, and Supplier Quality.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams to execute corrections for product designs/standards, supplier issues, and internal manufacturing processes for new products manufactured at DTTP and other Daikin sister plants.
  • Communicate internally regarding current quality problems, including 8D reports (problem description, status, root cause analysis, resolution timetable).
  • Create and lead Development Quality Improvement and Warranty Monitoring reporting activities for all new product launches.
  • Lead and orchestrate all New Product Launch related efforts to minimize impact on manufacturing operations.
  • Lead organization-wide quality improvement initiatives.
  • Innovate and develop new quality improvement techniques and strategies.
  • Supervise, train, and audit incoming personnel and auditors (lab/line).
  • Provide support to production and ensure system adherence.
  • Ensure that product design, supplier, reliability, and component changes are fully verified and validated through design engineering test processes and reliability test processes.
  • Manage complex, high-impact projects with significant organizational influence related to warranty F-cost reduction and NPD launches.
  • Act as a recognized authority on HVAC quality issues and solutions.
  • Mentor and develop project management skills in other engineers.
  • Ensure effective operation and strategic planning for Quality Assurance.
  • Coordinate effectively with Design, Procurement, Supplier Quality Assurance, and Reliability Departments to ensure supplier and internal changes are fully qualified before implementation.
  • Ensure the Quality Policy and Daikin Core Values are understood and used as a guide for decision-making.
  • Ensure smooth operation of the Development Quality Department, including setting clear expectations, reasonable work assignments, fair scheduling, equal job opportunity, effective hiring, firm discipline, high-performance team management, transparent budgeting/spending, and environmentally friendly practices.
  • Act as a proxy for the manager as needed, driving best practices, carrying out tasks, and making critical decisions to self-drive workflow and facilitate deliverables.
  • Perform additional projects/duties to support ongoing business needs.
  • Implement basic-mid-advanced quality practices and tools to ensure project deliverables meet required standards.
  • Lead data collection and analysis for quality improvement projects.
