About The Position

ASTEMO ROCK SPRING, INC. was established in 2000 and supplies aluminum knuckles to Honda and Subaru. We are in Rock Spring, GA, and operate on 3 shifts with 400 employees. We have three main manufacturing departments: Casting, Machining, and Press Assembly. We are part of Astemo, Inc. with 90,000 employees worldwide. This role supports root cause analysis for customer and internal issues, implements countermeasures, and provides structure to reports for customer and internal management. The Quality Engineer utilizes problem-solving methods, coordinates sorting activities, trains department leads, and supports monthly metrics collection and reporting. They also provide direction and support for Quality-related equipment, troubleshoot line-side Quality issues, and support Process Engineering. The role involves understanding and utilizing Change Point Control, supporting training, practicing Continual Improvement, and assisting with cost-down projects. Creating and supporting Work Instructions, Procedures, and Policies is also a key responsibility, along with operating and providing support for Quality-related equipment. The engineer must be able to read and interpret blueprints, understand processes and risks, and utilize data for improvements. Creation and updates for PQCT and FMEA are required. When accomplishing tasks, the engineer must work towards meeting overall company goals, including OSHA safety compliance, ISO 14001 Environmental Compliance, Ethical & Legal compliance, Customer Quality, Production to Plan, and Delivery Performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in manufacturing, business or quality related field and/or a minimum of 5 years in a previous role as quality engineer.
  • Previous experience in Automotive Manufacturing Quality preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Automotive Quality Systems Key Metrics
  • Must have a good understanding of the Quality Management System.
  • Understands Plan, Do, Check, Act.
  • Must be able to perform the duties of the job which may require standing, walking, handling of parts and equipment.
  • May require lifting of up to 40 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Supports root cause analysis for customer and internal issues.
  • Supports the implementation of temporary & permanent countermeasures for root cause determinations for both the customer and internal issues.
  • Supports providing structure to the report that may be presented to the customer and to internal management.
  • Utilize problem solving methods.
  • Coordinates sorting activity by providing sort standards.
  • Will train department leads over the standard and provide direction as needed.
  • Supports monthly metrics data collection and reporting.
  • Provides direction and support for Quality related equipment.
  • Supports troubleshooting line side Quality issues.
  • Support Process Engineering when troubleshooting Quality issues.
  • Understands and utilizes Change Point Control.
  • Will support training as needed.
  • Practices Continual Improvement.
  • Supports cost down projects with Process Engineering.
  • Creates and supports Work Instructions, Procedures and Policies as needed.
  • Operate all Quality related equipment, provide instructions and support on related equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints.
  • Understanding the process and the risks involved.
  • Understanding and being able to utilize data to make and sustain improvements.
  • Creation and updates for PQCT and FMEA.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures related to both Safety and Environmental.
  • Ensures Quality standards are present where Quality gates exist.
  • Work towards overall goal of meeting defined targets for project completion.
  • Create and / or support reports to Customer, Supplier, Internal Management as needed.
  • Be able to present material both in-house or at the Customer, Supplier location.
  • Be able to present to large groups, or in a classroom setting, or to the individual.
  • Supports review of defective parts and defective parts reduction.
