About The Position

We are looking for a Quality Engineer to join our composites processing support team at Andersen’s Bayport, MN facility. The primary focus of the Quality Engineer position will be to contribute to quality assurance department activities and quality control policy adherence for Bayport manufacturing processes. Other areas of focus include develop standardized processes, drive continuous improvement, improve customer satisfaction, reduce waste, increase efficiency, audit, measure and monitor our production processes ensuring product conformance to specification.

Requirements

  • BS (4 year) degree in Engineering, Technology, or similar field
  • 1-2 of engineering experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of quality programs, SPC, process capability and lean manufacturing principles
  • Able to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and standards
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to present and articulate quality programs, continuous improvement methodologies and problem-solving techniques in a clear, concise, and logical manner
  • Ability to gather and analyze data through statistical techniques: perform and analyze process capability studies
  • Experience implementing process control charting
  • Usage of computer software tools, such as Excel or Minitab, to analyze data to detect trends and abnormalities
  • Good organization, prioritization, and project management skills
  • Desire to continue to grow and develop personally.

Responsibilities

  • Drive corrective action through root cause identification and structured problem solving.
  • Perform root cause analysis to find sources of variation and process problems and use DMAIC tools to resolve them.
  • Use Statistical Process Control to identify out-of-control conditions and define control plans to reduce process variation and support continuous improvement activities and lean manufacturing implementations.
  • Interface with Product Design, Product Engineering, Tooling Design and other business partners on the design for manufacturability, process capability and production builds of new product or product revisions.
  • Support the development of quality systems, programs, training tools, documents and standard operating procedures for critical to quality production processes ensuring consistent manufacturability of extruded components.
  • Develop gauges and other tools for assessing conformance of manufactured parts to engineering specifications.
  • Preparation and execution of quality control plans, including the review of specifications, tolerances, capabilities and preparation of necessary supporting documentation and justification.
  • Lead containment activities when reactive issues arise and ensure all customer issues (CAPA’s, etc.) are addressed, filed, and documented in a timely manner.
  • Lead Part Submission Warrant (PSW) requests and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submittals.
  • Maintain the Extrusion Non-Conforming Material (NCM) processes ensuring the database is complete and accurate.
  • Develop training tools and train other team members to use the non-conformance processes.
  • Participate and lead regular weekly conference call in meetings with our internal and external customers to be informed of communications on current issues as well as proposed changes.
