About The Position

The Quality Control Technician is a traveling position responsible for auditing frac sand product quality and quality records across multiple mine and processing plant locations. Reporting to the Operations Command Center Director, this role serves as an independent verification function confirming that each site's sampling, testing, documentation, and finished product consistently meet API specifications, customer requirements, and company quality standards. The technician identifies deviations, root causes, and trends across sites, then partners with plant leadership to drive corrective action and continuous improvement. This position requires extensive travel to operating facilities.

Requirements

  • Ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English.

Nice To Haves

  • four-year degree or a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a Quality Control position or lab, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to assigned frac sand mines, plants, and other facilities to conduct scheduled and unannounced quality audits of products, processes, and records.
  • Collect independent verification samples from stockpiles, silos, conveyors, railcars (where necessary), and trucks; perform on-site and lab-based testing including sieve analysis and moisture content per API standards.
  • Compare on-site QC lab results to independent split-sample results to validate accuracy, repeatability, and reproducibility of each plant's testing program.
  • Audit plant QC records, chain-of-custody documentation, certificates of analysis (COAs), retain samples, and shipping/load-out paperwork for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Verify proper calibration, maintenance, and use of lab equipment at each location, and confirm technicians are following standard operating procedures.
  • Document audit findings, non-conformances, and observations in formal reports submitted to the Operations Command Center Director and site leadership.
  • Track quality trends across the network, identify systemic issues, and recommend corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
  • Support investigations of customer quality complaints, rejected loads, and out-of-spec shipments by gathering data from involved sites and providing impartial analysis.
  • Assist in the rollout and standardization of QC procedures, work instructions, and training across all plants to ensure consistency network-wide.
  • Support customer, third-party, and API certification audits when conducted at any facility.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to site-level QC technicians during visits.
  • Maintain strict compliance with MSHA, OSHA, DOT, and company safety policies at every location visited.
  • Provide timely communication to the Operations Command Center Director regarding quality risks, shipment holds, and emerging issues that could impact customer deliveries.
