About The Position

Amrize, a leading supplier of quality construction building materials in the United States, has an immediate opening for a Quality Control Technician II in the asphalt division at our Waldorf, MD location. A Quality Control Technician II is responsible for performing laboratory and field testing to ensure asphalt materials and finished products meet company, customer, and applicable state DOT quality standards. This position works closely with plant operations, paving crews, and project management to monitor production, identify quality concerns, and support continuous process improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in asphalt, construction materials testing, or quality control, with demonstrated progression into advanced QC responsibilities (QC Technician III level or equivalent preferred)
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • SAP (Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing)
  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience in asphalt, construction materials testing, or quality control (QC III level experience preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of DOT, ASTM, and AASHTO standards, specifications, and testing requirements
  • Proven experience performing advanced asphalt testing, including mix verification, density, gradation, and volumetrics
  • Strong understanding of asphalt production processes, mix designs, and plant operations
  • Ability to lead and support field and laboratory testing activities with minimal supervision
  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and identify quality trends and issues
  • Strong attention to detail with a proven ability to maintain accurate, complete, and compliant documentation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with production, operations, and project teams
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and capable of working in fast-paced field and lab environments while ensuring safety and quality compliance
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory and field testing of asphalt mixtures, aggregates, and related construction materials in accordance with company and state DOT specifications.
  • Collect material samples from asphalt plants, stockpiles, and project sites for quality testing.
  • Conduct quality control tests, including gradation, asphalt content, moisture content, density, volumetric properties, and compaction.
  • Monitor asphalt production and paving operations to ensure compliance with approved mix designs and project specifications.
  • Accurately document, analyze, and report test results in a timely manner.
  • Identify quality issues and communicate findings to plant management and operations personnel to support corrective actions.
  • Calibrate, inspect, and maintain laboratory testing equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist with quality audits, plant inspections, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Verify compliance with company safety policies, environmental regulations, and applicable quality standards.
  • Collaborate with production teams, project managers, and field personnel to resolve quality-related concerns.
  • Assist in the development, evaluation, and adjustment of asphalt mix designs as needed.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Quality Control Technician I personnel, when assigned.
