About The Position

The Quality Control Technician II is responsible for performing routine and specialized quality control testing of manufactured batches to verify that products meet established specifications and quality standards. This position evaluates test results, documents findings, communicates results and potential adjustments to Operations and Quality Control leadership, and assists with troubleshooting out-of-specification conditions. The Technician II works with moderate supervision and applies knowledge of coatings, manufacturing processes, testing methods, and laboratory procedures to support consistent product quality.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing and/or laboratory environments.
  • Working knowledge of coatings and applicable quality control testing parameters.
  • Ability to perform routine and specialized testing accurately and consistently.
  • Ability to interpret test results and compare results against established specifications.
  • Ability to recognize unusual or out-of-specification results and appropriately communicate concerns.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations involving percentages, ratios, measurements, and unit conversions.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, established procedures, and test methods.
  • Ability to work independently while recognizing when additional guidance or escalation is necessary.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with Quality Control, Laboratory, Color, Operations, and other personnel.
  • Ability to manage multiple testing requests and priorities in a manufacturing environment.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn Gemini business and laboratory software.
  • Ability to learn and apply technical information related to products, formulations, manufacturing processes, and testing methods.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a manufacturing, laboratory, quality control, coatings, chemical, or related technical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialized QC testing of production batches according to established procedures and specifications.
  • Collect or obtain representative samples from production batches using established sampling procedures.
  • Perform physical and/or chemical testing as applicable to the product, such as viscosity, color, appearance, solids, density, dry time, adhesion, gloss, or other established product-specific parameters.
  • Compare test results against established product specifications and acceptance criteria.
  • Identify and communicate results that fall outside established specifications.
  • Communicate testing results and potential adjustments to Operations personnel and QC leadership.
  • Assist with troubleshooting out-of-specification or unusual test results.
  • Retest samples when appropriate and directed by established procedures.
  • Accurately document test results, observations, adjustments, and disposition information.
  • Enter and maintain QC data in Gemini software and other applicable systems.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory and QC records.
  • Follow established test methods, procedures, work instructions, and safety requirements.
  • Properly operate, clean, and maintain laboratory and testing equipment within the scope of the position.
  • Recognize abnormal test results, equipment issues, or testing conditions and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Assist with maintaining QC laboratory supplies, equipment, and work areas.
  • Support calibration and/or verification activities for applicable testing equipment.
  • Participate in investigations related to quality issues, customer concerns, or production deviations as directed.
  • Develop and maintain working knowledge of Gemini's products, raw materials, formulations, manufacturing processes, and applicable testing parameters.
  • Provide support to the Analytical Laboratory and other Technical Group functions as needed.
