Quality Control Manager
About The Position
The Quality Construction Control (QCC) Manager manages, monitors, implements, and executes RK Mechanical’s companywide Quality Construction Management (QCM) program across projects. The role helps ensure contractor and subcontractor quality-control requirements are met, project work complies with contracts, plans, and specifications, and projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to high standards. The manager sets QCM schedules, participates in planning and weekly meetings, leads quality audits and site walks, and follows through on open issues. The position works collaboratively with project teams and other company departments, supports quality planning and inspections, and facilitates lessons learned to prevent recurring problems. The role requires independent judgment, specialist expertise, and the ability to make important decisions and recommendations affecting company activities.
Requirements
- Typically 10 or more years of experience with proven specialist expertise.
- College or university graduate, or an equivalent combination of skills and experience expected for specified technical roles.
- Ability to make independent decisions.
- Ability to initiate and maintain relationships with key staff and other departments.
- Ability to make authoritative decisions and recommendations with important impacts on company activities.
- Creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented complexities.
- Ability to determine program objectives and requirements, organize programs and projects, and develop standards and guidelines for diverse activities.
- Collaborative approach and excellent communication skills for working effectively with all parties involved in construction.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and participate in most weekly QCM meetings to ensure compliance.
- Manage and supervise project teams to maintain the QCM process.
- Ensure project teams meet weekly and follow the QCM agenda.
- Review construction documents and specifications with project teams to ensure compliance.
- Verify compliance documentation in the Material Matrix and Equipment Tracking.
- Ensure mechanical teams plan projects using the “Plan it” agenda.
- Ensure mechanical project teams manage and maintain project schedules.
- Ensure mechanical teams use the Build-it agenda to plan and execute projects.
- Ensure mechanical project teams review and plan project labor weekly.
- Verify that the Labor Projection Report (LPR) is completed weekly and reviewed for accuracy.
- Ensure project triangulation is performed.
- Review the Short Interval Plan (SIP) weekly.
- Conduct regular site walks to review adherence to quality processes and procedures.
- Assist project teams with documenting quality assurance and regular inspections.
- Ensure project teams close out projects using the “Close it” agenda.
- Ensure teams maintain an Issues/Actions Log.
- Assist mechanical project teams with timely notifications to General Contractors about impacts.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with VPO, OM, PM, field leadership, VDC, fabrication, purchasing, and other parties involved in construction.
- Assist in drafting site-specific quality-control plans.
- Collect and conduct lessons-learned meetings to communicate effectively and prevent recurring problems across the company.
- Assist in identifying and reviewing project-specific critical systems.
- Identify special systems testing needs, such as steam, weld x-ray, chlorination, and duct testing.
- Comply with company policies and procedures.
- Support safety and health practices, including stopping work when unsafe conditions are present and notifying a supervisor.
- Implement and maintain safety and health systems and practices, including RK Mechanical Orientation training requirements.
