About The Position

Andrew Peller Limited (APL) is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented individual to join their Quality Control team for the peak harvest season. This fast-paced, hands-on role involves ensuring products meet the highest standards during the busiest time of year. The ideal candidate is punctual, reliable, and takes initiative. Flexibility is key, as extended hours and weekend work may be required. This position is primarily located in Niagara-on-the-Lake, with periodic temporary work in Grimsby as needed. The Harvest QC Laboratory Technician is responsible for executing required analysis of harvested juice and wine samples throughout the winemaking process accurately and in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry or related experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of analytical chemistry and microbial testing methods.
  • Strong attention to detail with capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Personable and excellent communication skills required for inter-departmental collaboration.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including overtime, and weekend availability during the harvest season.

Responsibilities

  • Performing all quality control analyses utilizing a variety of chemical and microbial techniques/equipment.
  • Assisting with grape maturity sampling for all vineyard blocks and fermentation monitoring.
  • Careful handling and sample preparation of all test items to maintain integrity and prevent cross contamination.
  • Following WHMIS requirements and providing for safe and clean working conditions, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous chemical waste.
  • Documenting actions when non-conformances are identified during daily on-line Bottle Shop inspections to ensure regulatory and quality compliance.
  • Approving product for release to bottling to ensure on-time start-up.
  • Executing Food Safety verifications procedures, including water sampling, allergen and sanitation status of processing equipment; directing Cellar/Bottle Shop personnel to correct failed verification tests of tanks and processing equipment to bring equipment into regulatory or quality compliance.
  • Understanding regulatory/quality limits, identifying non-conformances, reporting and following non-conformance procedures using specialized software.
  • Maintaining analytical equipment in good operating condition, including routine calibrations and assisting with troubleshooting when equipment malfunctions to ensure validity of results.
  • Providing laboratory support that services HACCP certified operations for national sales volume of 150,000 HL in Central Canada.
  • Providing laboratory support for Nationally Co-Packed products.
