About The Position

This role supports a quality control laboratory by preparing materials for testing and assisting certified professionals with a variety of laboratory procedures. The technician receives and processes specimens, manages sample storage and retrieval, and helps ensure accurate and timely testing. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a medical processing and manufacturing environment, with structured training and clear growth potential.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry, report retrieval, and use of laboratory information systems.
  • Ability to receive, process, and accurately record specimen and sample information.
  • Capability to operate, maintain, and perform basic troubleshooting on laboratory instrumentation within the assigned department.
  • Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions and adhere to standard operating procedures.
  • Comfort working with donor samples, including potentially positive samples, in a controlled laboratory environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling samples and entering data.
  • Ability to safely dispose of samples and materials into biohazard containers according to safety protocols.
  • Willingness and ability to work a consistent third shift schedule (Sunday–Thursday, 10:30 p.m.–7:00 a.m.).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of materials for testing, including buffer materials and other reagents as directed.
  • Aid professional and certified laboratory staff in performing various laboratory tests and procedures.
  • Receive specimens and supplies from collection centers and verify that accompanying documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Process and record information received from collection centers in the laboratory computer systems.
  • Handle and track donor samples from initial receipt through final testing, ensuring proper identification and chain-of-custody.
  • Prepare samples for testing through front-end automation and other laboratory workflows.
  • Store samples appropriately in refrigerated and frozen conditions, and maintain organized archives for future retrieval.
  • Use computerized reports to retrieve and reconcile samples from archive for additional or repeat testing.
  • Perform proper disposal of samples into biohazard containers after testing is complete, following safety and compliance procedures.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation within the assigned department according to established protocols.
  • Use the laboratory’s computerized inventory management system to locate, track, and determine the testing status of samples.
  • Handle positive samples when required, following all safety and quality guidelines.
  • Assist with monitoring inventory levels for laboratory supplies in the assigned department and notify the supervisor of inventory needs.
  • Support quality control and quality assurance activities by following standard operating procedures and documenting work accurately.
  • Participate in first-day orientation and ongoing training to maintain proficiency in laboratory procedures, safety practices, and data entry.
