About The Position

Perform inspections, checks, and tests of materials, components, and finished production pieces to ensure conformance to specifications and quality standards.

Requirements

Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of basic shop mathematics.
Experience in heavy structural fabrication.
Ability to read and understand blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols.
Proficient in the effective operation of welding equipment.
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Ability to occasionally pull, push, carry, or lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to withstand bending, squatting, or crouching.
Ability to frequently handle tools, equipment, or materials.
Ability to work in inclement weather conditions, including cold, heat, and humidity.
Required PPE: Fire/flame-resistant clothing, Heavy flame-resistant gloves, Respirators when ventilation is inadequate, Steel/hard toe boots, Hearing protection.

Responsibilities

Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, or work for conformance to specifications.
Measure dimensions using rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
Read blueprints, manuals, and testing procedures to determine specifications.
Record inspection and test data including weights, temperatures, grades, and quantities.
Mark items with grade or acceptance-rejection status.
Notify supervisors of production problems and recommend corrective actions.
Adhere to all Southland Steel Fabricators safety rules, policies, and procedures.
Maintain orderly and clean work areas.
Attend all required safety meetings.
Inspect equipment daily to ensure safety compliance.
Inspect tools daily before use including extension cords.
Use hand and power tools safely with correct guards in place.
Wear proper PPE appropriate for assigned tasks.
