About The Position

Austin Engineering is seeking a Quality Assurance Tech to join their team. This role involves testing and inspecting products at various stages of production, compiling and evaluating statistical data to ensure product quality and reliability, and monitoring weld tests. The position supports the use of Welding Procedure Specifications throughout the production process. Austin Engineering is an industry leader in the design and manufacturing of customized dump truck bodies, buckets, water tanks, and other ancillary products for the mining industry, with a manufacturing facility in Casper, Wyoming serving North America and overseas markets. Requirements

  • Computer literate, Microsoft Office products.
  • Always comply with all applicable safety guidelines by correcting hazards, informing the supervisor, or recommending guidance to a coworker(s) to avoid injury to an employee or damage to equipment.
  • Comply with applicable company policies and tool check-out procedures in all areas of the shop including the welder test area.
  • Demonstrate efficient knowledge of all welding processes and settings, such as but not limited to: FCAW, GMAW, GMAW-Pulse, GTAW, SMAW, and Air-Arcing.
  • Solid knowledge and experience with S-500 power-wave platform welding machines.
  • Understanding the development of Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) for the development of Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) per AWS D1.1 and other codes as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to act as a trainer for the power-wave and/or any other welding process used at Austin.
  • Answer questions that the welder may have about the welding machines and their proper use.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate customer standards, determine testing procedures, and select equipment by reading specifications, product requirements, engineering prints, work orders, and test manuals.
  • Confer with Engineers, Production personnel, and the Quality Assurance Manager regarding blueprints, testing procedures, and communicate results to prevent and resolve quality assurance problems.
  • Perform dimensional inspection of fit-ups, root gaps, bores, assemblies, sub-assemblies, piece parts, angles, and critical inspection points before and after welding using prints and proper measuring devices. Sign off inspection in audit sheets and logbook.
  • Approve materials by comparing Material Test Reports (MTR) to material specifications requirements, signing off on Material Issue Tickets.
  • Perform visual inspection of fabricated items regarding welding, painting, material, prints, and body construction sheets.
  • Operate ultra-sonic, magnetic particle testing equipment, and dye-penetrant to verify weld integrity according to specifications. Analyze test results, compare them with specifications, report defective welds, and process test data.
  • Calibrate test instruments according to specifications.
  • Exercise technical authority over work in process to ensure it meets specified standards of quality.
  • Comply with all applicable safety guidelines by correcting hazards, informing supervisors, or recommending guidance to coworkers.
  • Comply with applicable company policies and tool check-out procedures.
  • Administer internal reclassification and new-hire welding tests, grade and evaluate results for recommendations to production supervision on welder placement.
  • Demonstrate efficient knowledge of all welding processes and settings (FCAW, GMAW, GMAW-Pulse, GTAW, SMAW, and Air-Arcing) and solid knowledge/experience with S-500 power-wave platform welding machines.
  • Act as a trainer for the power-wave and/or other welding processes, and answer welder questions about welding machines and their proper use.
  • Understand the development of Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) for the development of Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) per AWS D1.1 and other codes.
