About The Position

The Quality and Food Safety Supervisor ensure products comply with food safety, regulatory (FDA/USDA), and quality standards by maintaining the food safety /GFSI programs, conducting audits, and managing compliance. The Quality Assurance Supervisor oversees the Quality Assurance Technicians, raw materials, sanitation effectiveness, and resolves non-conformance issues, often training staff on food safety and quality protocols. Key skills include leadership, training, auditing, and regulatory knowledge.

Requirements

  • Holds and maintains Food Safety, (HACCP), cGMP, and PCQI certifications
  • Knowledge and understanding of Regulatory Compliance - USDA, FDA, HACCP, GMP & SSOP
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a combination of experience and education
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a food manufacturing facility
  • Computer Skills required: Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Genesis

Responsibilities

  • Maintain HACCP, FSMA, SQF, FS22000, or other Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) certified programs.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor, test, hold, and release raw materials and finished products.
  • Arrange and participate in internal audits.
  • Assist with investigating product complaints, identifying non-conformance issues, and implementing corrective actions (CAPA).
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, audits, and process control, food safety, and quality checks in both soft and hard copies.
  • Act as a Safe Quality Food (SQF) practitioner.
  • Assist in maintaining the documents for the maintenance of the GFSI/SQF system.
  • Assist the company's quality systems and associated quality staff to develop and fortify continuous improvement of the firm’s food safety policies related to its quality training and safety program; its Standard Operating Procedures, Sanitation Operating Procedures, Food Safety Policies, and cGMPs.
  • Perform detailed good manufacturing practices inspections and participate in corrective action meetings with the Quality Assurance Manager.
  • Monitor and supervise the compliance of Standard Operating, Food Safety, and cGMP in the production areas, including makeup lines, equipment, and packaging.
  • Participate in mock recall and traceability exercises.
  • Maintain and keep all Quality and Food Safety documentation in order, both electronically and in associated record binders and files.
  • Take minute meeting notes during the food safety meetings.
  • Train, coach, develop, and supervise quality assurance technicians.
  • Keep a schedule of employee hours and assignments, prevent overtime hours, and participate in maintaining the Quality Assurance Department budget.
  • Monitor and verify correct product codes are accurate on the finished products.
  • Perform sanitation/hygiene inspections and enforce compliance of production areas, equipment, and food containers for cleanliness.
  • Assist in troubleshooting quality and food safety-related issues.
  • Oversee established calibration, testing program, and maintain records both electronically and physically.
  • Assist in obtaining all raw material specifications and required regulatory documents.
  • Investigate non-conforming materials and products.
  • Perform food safety training program and ensure training of employees to adopt food safety practices and meet food and plant safety goals.
  • Keep a training matrix to track completed training for all associates.
  • Oversee control of foreign material, including X-ray procedures, and hold and stop production for any material discovered with foreign material.
  • Participate in root cause analysis.
  • Perform various duties as required or directed by the Quality and Food Safety Manager.
  • Verify Good Manufacturing Practices and Sanitation effectiveness, including pre-operation inspections.
  • Report, assist, and communicate to the Quality and Food Safety Manager of any food safety issues observed with their supervisor.
  • Assist in performing Label verification activities (Ensure the accuracy of labels to ensure ingredient declarations are accurate and allergens in the formula are listed on the finished goods label).
  • Reinforce GMP, SOP, and SSOP compliance throughout the facility.
  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices and Pre-requisite programs.
  • Follow and enforce all Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Serve as a Food Defense Team member.
  • Be responsible for the validation and verification of the SQF System.
  • Communicate with the relevant staff their roles and responsibilities in the Safe Quality System.
  • Coordinate and conduct management reviews of the SQF system.
  • Take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the Safe Quality Food System.
