Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist - Food Manufacturing
About The Position
Tovala is a food-tech company combining hardware, software, and fresh food delivery to make home cooking simpler. The Quality Assurance Specialist inspects produced and procured foods to ensure they meet company standards, regulatory requirements, or both. The role involves testing, documenting defects, analyzing products, and monitoring procedures. It reports to the Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA) Manager and requires standing for 8–10 hours per day in a cold environment of approximately 39°F. The position is located at 5041 W. 2400 S, Suite 500, West Valley City, UT 84120.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Proficiency with computers and software, such as G-Suite, Slack, and industry-specific software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal speaking skills.
- Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently during shifts of 8 or more hours.
- Comfort working in hot and cold temperatures in kitchen, warehouse, and cooler environments.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Manufacturing, or a related field.
- At least 1 year of experience in food manufacturing production.
Responsibilities
- Monitor food production processes and products using sensory, weight-control, and analytical methods to maintain consistency and meet specifications such as color, moisture, pH, weight, and size.
- Hold team members accountable to FSQA standards and procedures.
- Evaluate finished products for compliance.
- Perform and document testing with precision and accuracy.
- Identify, investigate, and communicate out-of-compliance situations and product standards to the leadership team and FSQA Manager.
