Quality Assurance (QA) Project Engineer
About The Position
Moog is seeking a Quality Assurance, Project Engineer to assist in optimizing design, reducing variation, and elevating product quality across design, manufacturing, and Assembly & Test (A&T). This role involves applying advanced statistical methods and engineering knowledge to drive quality and cost optimization. The Project Quality Engineer will work independently with minimal guidance, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, and may coach or supervise a small group of engineers/technicians. Depending on business needs, the role may be aligned to Quality Engineering, Quality Control Engineering, or Supplier Quality Engineering. The individual will be accountable for entire projects or major components, tackling complex problems with rigorous analysis and cross-functional collaboration to achieve operational targets impacting quality, cost, and delivery. The position reports directly to the Quality Manager and is based in an on-site, collaborative working environment in East Aurora, New York.
Requirements
- BS in Engineering or related field
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience applying statistics in design, manufacturing, and assembly of complex systems (e.g., electrohydraulic, electromechanical, or electropneumatic servomechanisms)
- Proven expertise in SPC, DOE, regression analysis, capability studies, and root cause/corrective action.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing, assembly, and testing processes
- Comfortable making independent technical decisions.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Confident presenting to customers.
- Ability to coach others and oversee work at key project milestones

- Experience setting priorities and performing appraisals is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Lead variation reduction and design optimization by identifying key characteristics and key processes for product lines.
- Develop and implement SPC and capability plans, including process and gage capability studies; validate solutions with data-driven analysis.
- Apply advanced statistical techniques (DOE, regression, complex statistics) to assess manufacturing and A&T capability and inform design decisions.
- Partner across Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials & Process, and QA to influence requirements and drive Design-To-Cost outcomes.
- Present at customer design reviews, sharing capability studies and statistical findings.
- Train and mentor teams on statistical concepts and best practices.
- Manage project budgets and schedules; document results with clear, concise reports.
- Support new product development with proactive quality planning; when applicable, supervise up to four Quality engineers/technicians.
- Depending on assignment, support supplier quality management, including performance metrics, issue resolution, and ensuring contractual quality standards.
