About The Position

Wavetronix, the global leader in radar-based vehicle detection technologies, is seeking a Field Test Systems Technician to support engineering development, testing, and validation of connected roadway systems. These systems consist of roadside and cabinet-based technologies such as radar sensors, cameras, communication devices, power supplies, and surge protection equipment that work together to detect, process, and transmit traffic data. This role focuses on maintaining and supporting internal test sites and development infrastructure where these systems are installed, configured, and evaluated in real-world environments. As part of the engineering team, the primary focus is enabling product development through reliable field systems used to design, validate, and improve new products. The right individual will have strong technical troubleshooting skills, be comfortable working independently in both field and office environments, and be capable of managing physical systems, networking, and device configuration. This individual will work closely with engineering and product teams across multiple projects to prioritize and execute field-related work, ensuring that systems used for development and testing remain reliable and effective.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field plus 10 years of experience in Quality Assurance, with a strong track record of leading QA teams and managing comprehensive QA programs OR 15+ years of progressive experience in Quality Assurance, including demonstrated leadership of QA teams and ownership of end-to-end QA programs
  • Experience installing, configuring, or maintaining electronic or networked systems in the field
  • Basic understanding of IP networking (static vs DHCP, subnets, connectivity troubleshooting)
  • Experience terminating and testing Ethernet or low-voltage cabling
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, and networking issues in real-world environments
  • Comfortable working independently for extended periods with minimal supervision
  • Strong mechanical aptitude (drilling, mounting equipment, working with tools)
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to climb ladders and perform pole-mounted installations
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cellular modems, routers, or managed network switches
  • Familiarity with firmware updates and device configuration interfaces
  • Experience working in industrial panels, control systems, or telecom environments
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and system layouts
  • Experience supporting IoT or cloud-connected devices
  • Basic familiarity with Linux or command-line tools
  • Experience maintaining or configuring mobile or portable test systems
  • Experience in industries such as telecommunications, industrial controls, security systems, AV systems, or similar technical field environments is strongly preferred
  • Industry certifications (e.g., networking, cabling, or manufacturer-specific certifications) are a plus but not required

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot internal field test systems and assigned test sites used for engineering development, ensuring high uptime and reliability.
  • Diagnose and resolve common hardware, networking, and configuration issues without requiring engineering intervention.
  • Perform and execute field installations including device mounting, cabling, and system commissioning at test locations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of site configurations, issues, and changes.
  • Configure, maintain, and own the readiness and effectiveness of mobile test platforms (test vehicles) used for development and validation.
  • Build strong working relationships with engineering and product teams to prioritize and execute field-related work across multiple projects.
  • Minimize downtime and proactively address issues before escalation, taking primary ownership of test site reliability.
  • Reduce the need for engineering teams to engage in field troubleshooting and maintenance activities.
  • Independently plan and execute site maintenance and upgrade efforts based on engineering priorities.
  • Identify recurring field issues and provide clear, actionable feedback to engineering to improve system robustness.
  • Contribute to improving field processes, installation practices, and system validation approaches.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across hardware, networking, and configuration layers.
