Quality Assurance Engineer

Reality Defender•New York, NY
•$120,000 - $150,000

About The Position

Reality Defender is an award-winning cybersecurity company that helps enterprises and governments detect deepfakes and AI-generated media. Its API-first platform uses a patented multi-model approach to detect video, audio, imagery, and text in real time, helping customers identify fraud, disinformation campaigns, and harmful deepfakes. The Quality Assurance Engineer ensures that products meet the standards required for high-stakes, real-time customer decisions. The role tests APIs, SDKs, the web app, and real-time integrations, and builds automation that supports faster releases without sacrificing quality. It is a full-time position based at the NYC headquarters or remote within the U.S., reporting to the Quality Assurance Lead. The role owns QA planning and execution across assigned product areas, from requirements review through release sign-off. It builds and maintains automated test suites and CI/CD integration, tests real-time detection reliability and performance under realistic conditions, supports model release validation, and helps teams reproduce and resolve customer-reported issues. Over time, the engineer is expected to own QA across multiple product areas, help establish quality metrics, improve QA tooling and practices, and be ready to take on broader scope and mentor newer QA team members.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in software QA or quality engineering, testing web applications and APIs in a fast-moving release environment.
  • Hands-on experience writing automated tests in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or a similar language, using frameworks such as Pytest, Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium.
  • Experience testing REST APIs, such as with Postman or code-based API tests.
  • Experience working within CI/CD pipelines, such as GitHub Actions.
  • Strong attention to detail and a systematic approach to finding edge cases.
  • Clear written communication, including bug reports and test plans that engineers can act on.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience testing audio, video, or real-time communication products such as WebRTC, telephony, or conferencing.
  • Experience testing ML-powered products or working with test datasets.
  • Exposure to performance or load testing tools such as k6, Locust, or JMeter.

Responsibilities

  • Own test planning and execution for assigned product areas, including APIs, SDKs, the web app, and real-time voice and video integrations, from requirements review through release sign-off.
  • Build and maintain automated API, end-to-end, and regression test suites and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Find, document, and track defects with clear reproduction steps, severity, and impact, and work with engineers through resolution.
  • Test the reliability and performance of real-time detection under realistic conditions, including latency, load, varying audio and video quality, and different platforms and devices.
  • Help maintain the test data and media sets used to validate each release.
  • Partner with AI Research and the Red Team on model release validation and regression testing.
  • Help Customer Support and Solutions Engineering reproduce and triage customer-reported issues.
  • Contribute to QA standards, documentation, and release checklists across the engineering team.
  • Help establish quality metrics, including escaped defects, coverage, and release stability.
  • Improve QA tooling and practices and be ready to take on broader scope and mentor newer QA team members.
