About The Position

United States Steel is seeking a Quality Assurance Engineer to implement the quality assurance program in a manufacturing facility and partner with the Operations team to monitor adherence to quality standards. The role provides technical and quality systems support to the producing facility, including rejection analysis and process improvement recommendations. It also provides technical service to internal customers on the physical and metallurgical characteristics of processes and products and on quality control.

Requirements

• A technical degree is required.
• Skills in developing collaborative relationships to achieve results, analysis, continuous improvement, and verbal and written technical communication.

Nice To Haves

• A minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 and API Q1 quality system requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical, chemical, or mechanical engineering, or Material Science.
• Experience in steel or heavy industrial manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Review customer specifications.
• Provide metallurgical technical support to Operations management.
• Identify process changes for quality improvements and analyze process and product data.
• Perform quality audits and manage the quality system.
• Provide the producing facility with technical and quality systems support, including rejection analysis and process improvement recommendations.
• Develop and review quality reports and conduct quality meetings.
• Perform daily audits to ensure operations are running within defined operational and quality parameters and procedures.
• Determine whether products meet customer specifications.
• Lead problem-solving initiatives related to quality issues.
• Maintain process FMEAs, Control Plans, and other Quality Management System documents.
• Respond to customer claims, complaints, and inquiries.
• Coordinate and participate in continuous improvement trials.
• Apply education and technical experience, using problem-solving and continuous improvement skills.
