About The Position
This position requires the following: 8-hour Night Shift. The Quality Assurance Coordinator will monitor the workflow, quality, and daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD). Responsibilities include performing daily process and quality tray audits, overseeing staff competencies, training new hires, maintaining quality and event reporting, and demonstrating proficiency with the instrument tracking system. The role also involves monitoring equipment maintenance, troubleshooting issues, adhering to SPD policies and guidelines, and promoting compliance with AAMI, Joint Commission, and hospital standards. Additionally, the coordinator will support process improvements, communicate effectively with leadership, submit daily reports, and attend meetings.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician
- At least one successful travel contract
- Minimum of 2 years in quality assurance, staff education, or supervisory roles
- Certified Sterile Processing Technician (CRCST or CBSPDT)
- Expertise in Sterile Processing, AAMI standards, Joint Commission regulations, and Infection Prevention
- Experience with electronic health record systems, specifically Epic
Responsibilities
- Monitor the workflow, quality, and daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD)
- Perform daily process and quality tray audits and document results in the tracking system
- Oversee staff competencies, providing training, coaching, and re-education as necessary
- Train new hires and assist with annual competency assessments
- Maintain accurate quality and event reporting, including internal and external quality events
- Demonstrate proficiency with the instrument tracking system ensuring audits are documented for traceability
- Monitor routine equipment maintenance and troubleshoot minor equipment issues
- Adhere to SPD policies, guidelines, and manufacturer's instructions (IFUs), as well as load-failure procedures
- Promote compliance with AAMI, Joint Commission, and hospital standards
- Support the implementation of process improvements to enhance patient safety and operational efficiency
- Communicate effectively with management, supervisors, and quality/education leadership
- Submit detailed daily reports and respond promptly to communications
- Attend meetings and support ongoing quality improvement initiatives
