About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is seeking a Qualified Craft Worker (Electrical) for their Region 3 office in Trumbull. This full-time, first shift position involves performing highly skilled electrical repair, routine, preventative, and emergency maintenance for commercial and industrial facilities, as well as new electrical installations. The role requires diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical problems, performing facility fire alarm diagnosis, testing, and repair, and conducting life safety inspections. Responsibilities also include using a State-issued tablet for communication, recordkeeping, work orders, reports, estimates, and preventative maintenance schedules. Collaboration with other trades for HVAC and fuel dispensing equipment repair is also part of the job. A State vehicle, cell phone, and tablet will be provided. The position requires a considerable amount of driving and the ability to maintain a valid Connecticut driver's license. Dependability, self-motivation, multitasking, and initiative with minimal supervision are essential.

Requirements

Four (4) years of experience in tasks in the electrical trade.
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been performing skilled electrical trades.
Possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.
Ability to maintain a valid Connecticut driver's license.
Ability to multi-task and take initiative in completing duties with minimum supervision.
Considerable knowledge of and ability to apply standard tools, materials, methods and standard electrical trade practices.
Interpersonal skills.
Oral and written communication skills.
Ability to prepare estimates and keep shop records.
Utilize computer software.

Nice To Haves

Possesses a valid CT electrical license through graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma designating completion of subject requirements in the electrical trades.
Experience in utilizing CT electrical codes and the relative building and safety codes including lock-out/tag-out procedures and “Call Before You Dig” permitting.
Experience in skilled electrical work including intrinsically protected electrical systems including the ability to read and interpret blueprints/schematics.
Experience with electro-mechanical equipment troubleshooting and repairing.
Experience with troubleshooting/installing fire alarm systems.
Experience working in a large facility and/or multiple commercial and/or industrial buildings.
Experience using Microsoft 365 including Outlook, Excel, Word, and TEAMS.

Responsibilities

Perform highly skilled electrical repair services including routine, preventative, and emergency maintenance for multiple commercial and/or industrial facilities.
Perform new electrical installation work.
Diagnose/troubleshoot and resolve electrical problems typical to commercial and industrial buildings including emergency generators.
Perform facility fire alarm diagnosis, testing, and repair.
Perform life safety inspections.
Utilize email and a State-issued tablet for duties including communication, recordkeeping, handling work orders, preparing reports, making estimates of time, equipment, and materials, and for preparing preventative maintenance schedules.
Collaborate with other trades as required in the repair and maintenance of HVAC and fuel dispensing equipment.
Perform highly skilled tasks in accordance with standard electrical trade practices and codes.
Lay out and install electrical conduit for power and lighting.
Make repairs to electrical motors, controllers, switchboard panels, traffic lights, lights, power circuits, ventilating fans, electronic counting and traffic control devices, intercommunication systems and electrical generators.
Install open and concealed wiring and lighting fixtures.
Maintain and repair unit heaters, fans, building maintenance machines and equipment, gas pumps, refrigeration units, diesel electric generators, movable bridges, fire alarm systems, etc.
Repair relays and switches.
Rewire motors.
Bend pipes.
Install, repair and maintain oil burners.
Perform necessary safety testing of electrical equipment and keep required records.
Perform pole work.
Make estimates of time, personnel and determine and obtain required materials on assigned tasks.
Keep necessary records.
Diagnose failures and repair drilling and patching to facilitate installations.
Assist in high voltage work.
Perform duties related to similar trade areas as required.
Act as liaison with other operating units and outside contacts.
Operate heavy equipment.
Respond to fire and/or crash emergency situations at state owned airports.
