About The Position

Cates Control Systems in Plano, TX is looking to hire a Testing Technician. Joining the Cates team is both challenging and rewarding. You will become an important member of a very talented and dynamic team within our industry. The Role involves pull-testing all wires to verify a good connection, ensuring all wires are labeled correctly, verifying fuse correctness according to design standards, checking for wire frays, and confirming component sizes and voltages. The technician will apply the required voltage to verify component operation, ensure UL approval requirements are met if applicable, apply identification and UL stickers, and fill out check sheets. The role also includes verifying quality before handoff to shipping and logging time spent on jobs into the Epicor database.

Requirements

  • Ability to read wiring schematic
  • Fundamental knowledge of AC-DC circuits and the difference between the two.
  • Understand Kirchhoff’s law and apply it to power and control circuits.
  • Know how to calculate simple and advanced circuit calculations for industrial control panel needs.
  • Ability to look up and understand NEC and UL508A rules and apply them to industrial control panels.
  • NEC and UL508A will also need to be used in electrical design of power and control circuits.
  • Wiring sizing, component selection, and component uses are also required.
  • Understand PLC hardware basics and understand basic PLC ladder logic.
  • Understand advanced motor controls and automation systems.
  • Troubleshooting improperly working circuits is required.
  • A firm understanding about closed loop control and individual components in that loop is also needed.
  • Process controller programming and setup is also required.
  • Must be able to read sequence of operations for timers and counters and apply them to control panels.
  • Fundamental knowledge of AC and DC drives.
  • Basic and advanced setup of various drives is required.
  • Understand how different AC, DC and servo motors work.
  • Understand how to make connections for various application needs.
  • Understand how to use a digital multi-meter to make various electrical readings.
  • Basic computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Pull-test all wires to verify a good connection.
  • Make sure that all wires are labeled correctly.
  • Make sure that all fuses are correct according to design standards.
  • Make sure that there are no wire frays.
  • Check all components to verify correct sizes and voltages.
  • Apply the required voltage and verify that all components operate correctly.
  • If the control panel requires UL approval, make sure all components meet UL requirements via schematic designer.
  • Apply all identification stickers and UL stickers to control panel(s).
  • Fill out all check sheets supplied with drawings for your department.
  • Verify quality prior to hand off to shipping department.
  • Log all time spent on each job into the Epicor database using the traveler supplied with the drawings.
