About The Position

The Quality Control Technician I is responsible for ensuring compliance with industry, company, and customer specifications for untreated and treated wood products, preservatives, and treatment solutions. This position plays a vital role in maintaining product quality throughout the manufacturing process by conducting inspections, monitoring processes, identifying nonconformances, and supporting corrective actions. Working closely with operations and production teams, the Quality Control Technician helps ensure products meet regulatory requirements, customer expectations, and Stella-Jones quality standards while supporting a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Ensure compliance with industry, company, and customer specifications for untreated and treated wood products, preservatives, and treatment solutions.
  • Conduct inspections, monitoring processes, identifying nonconformances, and supporting corrective actions.
  • Ensure products meet regulatory requirements, customer expectations, and Stella-Jones quality standards.
  • Perform post-treatment inspections to verify compliance with AWPA, ANSI O5.1, CSA O15, CSA O80, ASTM D25, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Conduct inspections, boring, and chemical analyses of treated charges and issue treatment certificates and reports.
  • Apply industry standards and customer specifications while ensuring compliance with internal quality procedures and ISO requirements, where applicable.
  • Monitor critical treatment processes, including moisture content verification and sterilization requirements.
  • Verify preservative concentrations, incising, shaving, framing, and other manufacturing processes meet established quality standards.
  • Support and uphold Corporate Quality Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain quality databases, reports, and documentation to ensure process consistency and compliance.
  • Perform field and laboratory testing to evaluate product quality and treatment effectiveness.
  • Analyze test results and recommend treatment adjustments when necessary.
  • Ensure laboratory and inspection equipment is properly calibrated and maintained according to required compliance schedules.
  • Identify and communicate quality nonconformances to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with production and operations teams to determine appropriate disposition, including rework, retreatment, scrap, or escalation.
  • Initiate and document nonconformance incidents in accordance with the QS-017 Control of Nonconformance procedure.
  • Support root cause investigations, implement corrective actions, and perform effectiveness checks as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate inspection logs, assay forms, reject material records, and quality documentation.
  • Ensure traceability of reworked materials and maintain complete records of inspections, analyses, specifications, and correspondence.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly compliance reports for plant leadership.
  • Partner with treating supervisors and operations teams to optimize treating cycles and solution strengths.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external inspectors to support quality initiatives and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage and facilitate third-party quality control inspections.

  • Serve as the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) contact for the facility.
