QC Technician

G2V OpticsEdmonton, AB
CA$20 - CA$30Hybrid

About The Position

The Quality Technician is a full-time, hands-on role responsible for quality control execution across G2V’s production operations. Reporting to the Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) Manager, this role owns the day-to-day QC work that currently lives across QHSE and Operations & Production which includes calibration cycle management for G2V’s full instrument fleet, detector program operations and verification, incoming inspection of critical materials, product QC execution and disposition, SPC data collection, and Non-Conformance Reporting (NCR) initiation from findings.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education or technical diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology, Instrumentation and Control, Physics, Optics, or a related technical program; equivalent hands-on technical experience will be considered
  • Working knowledge of bench measurement instruments—spectrometers, DMMs, source meters, optical power meters, or similar—and an understanding of basic calibration and traceability concepts
  • Strong attention to detail and a disciplined approach to data capture, documentation, and procedure adherence; recognizes that accuracy in QC work is non-negotiable
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills, including spreadsheets and data entry; comfortable learning new software tools and quality data systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to document findings clearly and escalate issues appropriately without overstating or understating their significance

Responsibilities

  • Execute product QC testing and inspection for all G2V product lines per defined inspection criteria and work instructions; document results accurately and make pass/fail dispositions; flag anomalies or out-of-spec results to the QHSE Manager before product moves forward
  • Perform incoming inspection of critical components and materials; verify deliveries against purchase order specifications and acceptable quality levels; initiate NCRs for non-conforming items with supporting documentation
  • Manage calibration cycles for G2V’s full measurement instrument fleet—spectrometers, thermopiles, reference cells, digital multi-meters (DMMs), source meters, QC jigs, and in-house detector systems—ensuring all instruments remain on schedule with complete, traceable calibration records
  • Operate, maintain, and develop the G2V detector program; perform periodic verification of all active detector systems to confirm measurement integrity; identify and report drift or anomalies before they affect calibration output or production quality
  • Collect and organize trending data across production processes; support the QHSE Manager in analysis, reporting, and identification of process improvement opportunities
  • Initiate NCRs from QC and inspection findings; gather supporting measurement data, photographs, and contextual information to enable efficient root cause investigation and corrective action by the QHSE team.
  • Maintain calibration records, equipment logs, and QC documentation in alignment with ISO/IEC 17025 traceability requirements; ensure all records are complete, retrievable, and audit-ready at all times
  • Support measurement uncertainty documentation, method validation, and QC procedure development under the guidance of the QHSE Manager
  • Comply with and actively promote G2V’s safety procedures, WHMIS requirements, and applicable HSE standards in the quality lab and on the production floor
  • Communicate clearly with the Production team regarding QC holds, inspection dispositions, and measurement findings; support production flow without compromising quality standards
