About The Position

Moss Energy is seeking a QC & Commissioning Technician to support the construction, startup, and delivery of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage (BESS) projects. The role supervises electrical installation and commissioning teams, manages onsite technical activities, and ensures electrical systems meet safety, reliability, and performance standards before energization. It serves as a bridge between field execution and senior management to support project completion. The technician ensures the quality of electrical installations; verifies compliance with engineered designs, manufacturer requirements, codes, and safety practices; performs documented quality inspections; and supervises testing and commissioning of medium- and low-voltage systems. The position supports startup, energization, troubleshooting, system integration, documentation, safety enforcement, scheduling, and progress reporting. Travel to sites across Hawaii is required as future projects demand. The role involves frequent physical activity indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varying weather, moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, loud noise, and extreme temperatures. Duties include standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and lifting or carrying materials weighing up to 50 pounds; heavier loads may occasionally be handled with assistance. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a leadership or technical role commissioning electrical systems in solar, BESS, utility, or industrial sectors.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical testing methods, specialized equipment, and NETA standards.
  • Ability to interpret control logic, advanced technical drawings, and protective relay settings.
  • Experience in field execution management, including troubleshooting, team coordination, and project reporting.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to manage subcontractor relationships and internal stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel to sites across the State of Hawaii as required for future projects.
  • Current driver’s license.
  • Ability to perform frequent physical activities, including standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with heavier loads occasionally handled with assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure high-quality installation of electrical project components, including underground collection systems, cabling and switches, PV and BESS inverters, battery containers, grounding systems, PV trackers, transformers, air-conditioning units, MET stations, security systems, and communications equipment.
  • Verify electrical installations comply with engineered designs, manufacturer requirements, applicable codes, and electrical safety best practices.
  • Conduct and document quality assurance inspections of electrical equipment, including torque checks on bolted connections.
  • Supervise testing and commissioning of medium- and low-voltage electrical systems, including inverters, transformers, and BESS power distribution equipment.
  • Oversee NETA-based testing, including Megger insulation-resistance testing, VOC testing, VLF testing, and TTR, ensuring accurate and compliant performance validation.
  • Support the Manager with startup, energization, and complex troubleshooting of AC and DC components.
  • Review and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and one-line diagrams to verify installation quality and resolve field engineering issues.
  • Coordinate with construction leads, SCADA teams, and utility partners on system integration and communication protocols.
  • Assist the Manager in compiling QC and commissioning documentation, test results, and turnover packages in line with project milestones and industry standards.
  • Enforce safety protocols, electrical codes including NEC/NFPA 70E, and site-specific safety requirements across the commissioning team.
  • Support energy isolation procedures (LOTO) to promote a zero-incident transition from construction to operations.
  • Assist the Manager with scheduling and progress reporting.
