About The Position

FST Technical Services is hiring experienced QAQC Technicians with piping and welding inspection experience to join its teams in Clayton, North Carolina. This is a local position for candidates who live within commuting distance of the greater Clayton area. The role supports pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturing facilities by performing Visual Testing (VT) inspections in accordance with ASME, AWS, GMP, and client-specific quality standards. Inspections focus on high-purity process piping, clean utilities, pressure systems, and structural components to ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and quality requirements.

The position is on-site at pharmaceutical or biotech facilities. Work may take place outdoors in varying weather conditions and may involve extensive walking, lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds, and working at heights using ladders, scaffolding, or lift systems; harnesses may sometimes be required. Extended hours, weekends, or travel may be involved. Applicants must be authorized to work permanently in the USA; sponsorship is unavailable, and third-party candidates are not considered.

Requirements

• Piping and welding inspection experience.
• ASNT NDT VT Level II certification from a current or previous employer is preferred.
• Current or former CWI certification is preferred.
• Experience inspecting high-purity stainless steel welds is preferred.
• Familiarity with FDA 21 CFR Part 210/211, EU GMP Annex 1, and ISPE Baseline Guides is preferred.
• Authorization to work permanently in the USA; the employer is unable to sponsor.
• Ability to walk extensive distances throughout the day.
• Ability to lift or carry up to 40 pounds when necessary.
• Ability and comfort working at heights from ladders, scaffolding, or lift systems; harness systems may sometimes be required.
• Local to or commutable to the greater Clayton, NC area.

Nice To Haves

• Two or more years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotech facilities; semiconductor or other advanced manufacturing experience will also be considered.
• ASNT NDT VT Level II certification from a current or previous employer.
• Current or former CWI certification.
• Experience inspecting high-purity stainless steel welds.
• Additional NDT certifications such as PT, MT, or UT.
• Familiarity with FDA 21 CFR Part 210/211, EU GMP Annex 1, and ISPE Baseline Guides.

Responsibilities

• Perform VT Level II inspections on high-purity 316L stainless steel piping, clean utilities (WFI, PW, and Clean Steam), pressure vessels, tanks, skids, and supports.
• Verify weld profiles, surface finish, alignment, fit-up, and workmanship.
• Ensure inspected work complies with project specifications and applicable quality standards.
• Complete GMP-compliant inspection documentation, including ITRs, weld logs, and NCRs.
• Ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and audit-ready.
• Participate in system walkdowns, punch-list resolution, and audits.
• Identify defects that may affect product quality, cleanability, sterility, or system integrity.
• Adhere to GMP and site quality systems.
