About The Position

Pennoni is seeking an Inspection Supervisor to lead Quality Assurance (QA) inspection services for structural steel fabrication, coatings, and related bridge and highway materials. This role supports transportation agencies QA fabrication inspection programs in the Northeastern United States. The position involves supervising inspection personnel, coordinating with clients and fabrication facilities, and ensuring compliance with applicable standards and specifications. The Inspection Supervisor will provide comprehensive leadership and oversight for QA inspection staff supporting DOT projects at offsite fabrication facilities and project job sites. This includes providing inspectors with technical guidance, performing shop audits, and supporting assignments during scheduling conflicts. The role also involves conducting site visits to monitor performance and progress, as well as supporting the onboarding, training, and development of inspection personnel. In supporting quality assurance objectives, the Supervisor will help ensure compliance with applicable DOT specifications, AASHTO, AWS codes, and contract requirements. Responsibilities include reviewing inspection reports and documentation for accuracy and completeness, verifying that fabrication, welding, and coating processes meet required standards, and ensuring the timely submission of deliverables. The position serves as a key technical resource, providing guidance on welding procedures, nondestructive testing, and fabrication-related issues. The Supervisor will participate in prefabrication meetings, contribute to QA/QC planning and procedures, and mentor inspection staff to promote consistency and technical excellence across projects. Additionally, the Supervisor will act as a liaison between Pennoni, clients, and fabrication facilities, ensuring clear communication of project status, risks, and issues. The role includes helping coordinate responses to client comments, audits, and technical inquiries to maintain strong client relationships and project alignment. From a program administration perspective, the Supervisor will support staffing and resource planning efforts, confirm the accuracy and compliance of project documentation, and maintain internal quality control records to ensure consistent execution across assignments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of QA/QC inspection experience
  • One to three years in a supervisory capacity
  • Demonstrated experience supporting DOT or similar transportation agencies
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
  • Applicable ASNT Level II or III certifications (UT, MT, RT, or PT)
  • AMPP Basic Coatings Inspector
  • OSHA 10 safety training
  • Strong technical knowledge of DOT specifications, and related codes such as AASHTO/AWS D1.5 and D1.1 welding codes, the New York State Steel Construction Manual (NYSSCM)
  • Practical experience in structural steel fabrication and inspection
