QA Optimization Engineer

Avery Dennison•Painesville, OH

About The Position

The Quality Optimization Engineer identifies, analyzes, and eliminates manufacturing yield loss while ensuring operational capabilities align with product specifications. Working with a high degree of autonomy, the engineer serves as a liaison among Operations, Quality, R&D, and Engineering to clarify standards and reduce operational ambiguity. The role applies engineering principles and modern technologies, including AI-driven data tools and predictive analytics, to improve yield and optimize manufacturing processes. The position also evaluates process capability and product specifications, supports sustainable process controls, and translates investigation outcomes into procedures, control plans, and training materials. It conducts targeted age testing on key product lines and presents performance metrics, capability studies, and project updates to plant and operations management.

  • Exposure to specification-setting workflows.
  • Exposure to Lean Six Sigma concepts.
  • Exposure to formal root-cause analysis (RCA).

Responsibilities

  • Identify drivers of manufacturing loss, scrap, and downtime; design and execute corrective strategies to improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Lead end-to-end root-cause investigations using formal methodologies such as 8D, DMAIC, 5-Why, and Fishbone Analysis.
  • Partner with Operations leadership to clarify quality standards, establish clear visual or measurable criteria, and ensure floor-level understanding.
  • Assist in drafting, refining, and reviewing product specifications; evaluate manufacturing process capabilities (Cpk/Ppk) to assess whether specifications are achievable on the production line.
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and R&D to implement sustainable process controls.
  • Use artificial intelligence tools, machine learning applications, and modern data platforms to improve data synthesis, predictive modeling, and root-cause discovery.
  • Translate problem-solving outcomes and specification updates into standard operating procedures, control plans, and training materials.
  • Generate and present quantitative performance metrics, capability studies, and project updates to plant and operations management.
  • Conduct targeted age testing on key product lines to validate long-term performance and reliability, and incorporate findings into problem-solving and quality investigations.
