About The Position

The QA Laboratory Technician I is responsible for sampling, testing, plating, reading, and recording product test results. This role involves maintaining daily records, performing data entry and tracking, and following QC Hold Procedures for out-of-specification products. The technician must be able to follow standard operating procedures (SOP's), assist in maintaining a 5-S rating of an "A", and be flexible in working hours. Responsibilities also include equipment calibration and troubleshooting, performing other duties as assigned, participating in driving continuous improvement, and meeting with a supervisor daily to discuss production-related issues. The role requires knowledge and understanding of industry best practices for equipment maintenance.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree (Food Science, Biology, Microbiology or related science) or equivalent experience (Minimum 2 years in similar role).
  • Knowledge of Microbiological, Chemical and Physical, Organoleptic Testing.
  • Ensuring Safeway policies, procedures, and workplace safety is adhered to.
  • Evaluating trends from test results and developing plans to correct deficiencies and communicating these plans to employees, and management.
  • Implementing quality control processes/testing to meet the expectations of Safeway quality standards and ensuring that the product(s) are within specification.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high degree of initiative and flexibility.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Utilizing laboratory supplies/items relating to plant sanitation/safety.
  • Good oral/written communication skills.
  • Able to multi-task in fast paced environment with limited supervision.
  • Proficient in window based PC programs.
  • Lab Test Equipment/Maintenance.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Time Management.
  • Quick to learn new techniques.
  • Ability to work in cold and loud environments.

Responsibilities
