QA Engineer

Aderant•Atlanta, GA

About The Position

As a QA Engineer, you will help ensure the quality of Aderant’s suite of legal software across its practice-of-law products. You will test assigned product areas through manual verification and exploratory testing, automation and gated tests, test plans, performance and load testing, product integration testing, and production feature-flag testing. You will be a key part of the quality gate for new releases, helping determine when a version is ready to roll out and when more testing time is needed. You will work closely with developers, architects, QA engineers, product owners, and support staff. The role involves planning tests for features and releases; building and maintaining automated tests across web, API, contract, and unit levels; testing integrations and non-functional behavior; maintaining dependable automation; and integrating tests into CI/CD. You will also report defects and test outcomes, track cases and results in Azure DevOps, and coordinate with development and operations teams across development, QA, and staging environments. In the first three months, you are expected to learn the products, environments, and existing test suites, independently run release manual verification, and ship initial automated tests and flaky-test fixes. By six months, you should be the primary tester for a product area with limited guidance, add automated coverage for previously manual-only paths, and have tests running reliably in CI. Within a year, you will contribute to integration, database, or performance testing improvements and share knowledge with newer QA engineers.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in software QA, including at least 2 years writing automated tests.
  • Hands-on experience with a modern UI automation framework; Playwright is ideal.
  • Experience testing REST APIs using Postman, Playwright request, or code-based tests, and reading request/response payloads in browser DevTools.
  • Working knowledge of SQL for checking data and setting up test conditions.
  • Experience with Git, pull requests, and running tests in CI pipelines.
  • Solid grasp of test design, including equivalence partitioning, boundary values, state transitions, and risk-based prioritization.
  • Comfort with manual and exploratory testing and sound judgment about when each approach is appropriate.
  • Clear written communication, including actionable bug reports and summaries suitable for managers.
  • A working habit of using AI coding assistants to speed up test creation and investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Jest or similar unit-test frameworks, including mocking or stubbing backends.
  • Knowledge of C# scripting and TypeScript for writing and maintaining test automation.
  • Contract testing, such as consumer-driven contracts or schema validation, or testing third-party integrations.
  • Performance or load testing experience with k6, JMeter, or similar tools.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps Boards and Test Cases, and Azure-hosted environments.
  • Experience with SSO/OAuth/OIDC login flows and multi-tenant SaaS configuration.
  • Familiarity with legal or professional-services software.

Responsibilities

  • Plan testing for features and releases by translating requirements and user stories into test cases, identifying risks and edge cases, and recommending what to automate versus test manually.
  • Build and maintain automated tests across web end-to-end, API, contract, and unit-test layers, working alongside developers where appropriate.
  • Run manual and exploratory testing, including release checklists, regression passes, and structured test sessions in QA environments.
  • Test integrations across databases, connectors, identity/SSO, and other Aderant products, verifying data flows, contracts, and failure behavior.
  • Contribute to non-functional testing, including performance, load, and resilience scenarios with measurable pass criteria.
  • Maintain reliable automation by fixing flaky tests, avoiding dependencies on shared accounts and preset configuration, and managing test data to prevent runs from interfering with one another.
  • Help integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines so appropriate suites run on pull requests, nightly, and before releases.
  • Log reproducible defects with evidence; track test cases and results in Azure DevOps; and summarize coverage, results, and risks for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Coordinate with developers and operations across development, QA, and staging environments on environment setup, backend support, test accounts, and configuration.
  • Learn Aderant’s products, environments, and test suites; independently perform release manual verification; and deliver automated tests and flaky-test fixes.
  • Become the primary tester for a product area, add automated coverage to previously manual-only paths, and maintain tests that run reliably in CI.
  • Contribute improvements to integration, database, or performance testing and share learnings with newer QA engineers.
