Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Certificate in Basic Process Operations from a Junior College, Community College, or Trade School and a minimum test score of 12 on TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education); or two years process operations experience in PVC; or five years general operations experience in a plant environment and a minimum test score of 12 on TABE.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to use an escape respirator or a self contained breathing apparatus.

Responsibilities

Monitors process variables and makes adjustments to operate within the parameters as established in standard operating procedures and log sheets.
Monitors rotating equipment for proper operation.
Operates manual valves.
Samples and analyzes process samples.
Operates personnel computers and the DCS (distributed control system).
Communicates plant status and abnormalities orally and through written logs.
Troubleshoots process abnormalities.
Evaluates and makes recommendations for process improvements.
Performs minor maintenance.
