Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Certificate in Basic Process Operations from a Junior College, Community College, or Trade School and a minimum test score of 12 on TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education); or two years process operations experience in PVC; or five years general operations experience in a plant environment and a minimum test score of 12 on TABE.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to use an escape respirator or a self contained breathing apparatus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors process variables and makes adjustments to operate within the parameters as established in standard operating procedures and log sheets.
  • Monitors rotating equipment for proper operation.
  • Operates manual valves.
  • Samples and analyzes process samples.
  • Operates personnel computers and the DCS (distributed control system).
  • Communicates plant status and abnormalities orally and through written logs.
  • Troubleshoots process abnormalities.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations for process improvements.
  • Performs minor maintenance.
