As a PV Designer/Solar Engineer at Verogy, you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of solar projects in the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Utility-scale spaces. Your expertise in solar PV system design and collaboration with cross-functional teams will ensure our projects meet the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and compliance. By creating innovative system layouts and leveraging the latest solar technologies, you will contribute directly to Verogy’s mission of delivering industry-leading renewable energy solutions. Your efforts will support the growth of clean energy infrastructure, aligning with Verogy’s commitment to sustainability and excellence. This is a hybrid role based in West Hartford, CT, offering a mix of remote work and in-office collaboration. Candidates should expect to work in-office at least two days a week to engage with team members, attend meetings, and support collaborative projects. The on-site commitment for the first 3-6 months in the role may be higher due to job-specific training.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in solar PV design, specifically for C&I and utility-scale projects.
  • Proficiency in design and modeling software such as AutoCAD, PVsyst, and Helioscope.
  • Strong understanding of NEC, local electrical codes, and interconnection standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Familiarity with structural design considerations and energy storage system (ESS) integration is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed PV system designs, including single-line diagrams, electrical layouts, and site plans, using tools like AutoCAD, PVsyst, and Helioscope.
  • Conduct energy modeling and production analysis to optimize system performance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., sales, project management, and construction) to evaluate layouts, materials, and site-specific conditions.
  • Ensure all designs comply with NEC, local codes, permitting requirements, and utility interconnection standards.
  • Perform preliminary site assessments and feasibility studies, including shading analysis and interconnection evaluations.
  • Specify and recommend system components such as modules, inverters, and racking systems to align with project requirements.
  • Assist in budget preparations by providing cost estimates for system components and design optimizations.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive design packages, including bills of materials and supporting documentation, for permitting and construction.
  • Stay informed about advancements in solar technologies, industry trends, and best practices to integrate innovation into design work.
  • Offer versatile support to the Project Management team, which may encompass: Engineering assistance, Project support, Supervision of on-site construction and engineering surveys.
