May conduct analytical, experimental, investigative and other fact-finding work to support principal scientific research. Prepares comprehensive documented observations, analyses and interpretations of results, including technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses. Identifies, assesses and develops new scientific concepts/technologies in basic or applied research with significant business impact. Documents research leading to patent disclosure or technical and/or scientific advancement. Specifically, the role of the purification engineer will be to conduct laboratory experiments related to filtration and metal impurity removal. The knowledge generated by this experimental work will be used to help scale up new raw materials and formulations, troubleshoot commercial production issues, improve product quality, and win new business. The applicant will work as part of a team dedicated to filtration and purification, and will regularly report and share results with the team to help plan and design new experiments. Technical professional with high competency in a degreed technology area and developing capability as a technical/product SME, completing specialized and/or moderately complex tasks under minimal to moderate supervision.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment, preferably with flammable/combustible materials
  • Able to learn new skills and knowledge on fast time scales
  • Flexible with respect to assignments and tasks
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Good oral and written communications skills, including technical reports and presentations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ion exchange resins and/or membrane filtration is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Planning and executing experimental work on filtration and purification, both fundamental and product-specific
  • Submitting sample test requests to different analytical labs
  • Analyzing and working up experimental data into forms usable by the team
  • Presenting findings to team members in group meetings
  • Documenting results in electronic lab notebook software and internal databases
  • Maintaining a safe and tidy work area, participating in lab clean-ups, and abiding by all safe work protocols and procedures
