About The Position

The Nevada Department of Corrections has a vacancy for a Purchasing Technician in Carson City. This position is responsible for performing a variety of purchasing, procurement, and inventory control functions that support state operations. Duties for this position include processing purchase orders, maintaining computerized records, coordinating vendor deliveries, and overseeing fixed asset documentation. The incumbent will ensure compliance with state laws, regulations, and policies while securing goods and services efficiently and cost-effectively. Purchasing Technicians prepare and process documents for the purchase, issuance, and transfer of goods.

Requirements

  • One or more years of applicable experience as described in the job duties
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, policies, and procedures used in the procurement of a variety of goods and services
  • Knowledge of computerized recordkeeping systems related to procurement, contract maintenance, and purchase order tracking
  • Knowledge of terminology pertaining to the procurement of goods and services
  • Knowledge of use and processing of requisitions, purchase orders, invoices, and related documents
  • Knowledge of market value of a variety of items
  • Knowledge of customer service techniques
  • Knowledge of recordkeeping techniques and methods
  • Knowledge of basic math
  • Skill in mathematical computations
  • Skill in interpersonal and communication, both verbal and written
  • Skill in use and operation of office and job-related equipment and software
  • Ability to use reference manuals, catalogs, guides, and other resource materials
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulations, policies, and procedures to specific problems and situations
  • Ability to read and understand documents and instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others
  • Ability to communicate with vendors and others regarding the price, availability, terms, and delivery of goods and services

Responsibilities

  • Purchase property, equipment, services, forms, food, parts, and supplies.
  • Determine the best price and availability of items.
  • Issue and modify purchase orders via an open-term contract or informal quote.
  • Verify the accuracy of coding and vendor information and resolve inconsistency or error problems.
  • Maintain and monitor computerized record systems and distribute documentation to appropriate parties.
  • Ensure compliance with State laws, regulations, and agency policies and procedures.
  • Prepare for bid and request for proposal openings, complete legal advertisements, arrange and verify publications, maintain bid and records, and issue and post notification of awards.
  • Contact vendors to resolve problems and arrange for delivery or return of items.
  • Answer questions regarding applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain department or statewide fixed asset control records and issue identification tags.
  • Record property movement or disposition and issue reports for inventory verification and control purposes.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
