About The Position

Smardt is looking to hire a Purchasing Manager to be a part of our team in Dorval! What We're Looking For The Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the organization’s purchasing and procurement activities to ensure the timely, cost-effective, and compliant acquisition of goods and services. This role develops and implements purchasing strategies that optimize cost, quality, and supplier performance while supporting operational objectives and business growth. The Purchasing Manager collaborates closely with cross-functional teams including operations, finance, inventory, supply chain, and logistics to forecast purchasing requirements, maintain inventory continuity, and support production and customer demands. The role is also responsible for overseeing procurement processes, ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable regulations, maintaining accurate purchasing records and reporting. The role will be leading and developing the purchasing team (5-6 employees) to drive operational excellence and continuous improvement. This role is 100% on site at our office in Dorval.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field
  • 5+ years proven experience in procurement or purchasing
  • The ability to communicate in French with our Quebec team is important.
  • Strong English skills are also required to collaborate effectively with our suppliers and global team.

Responsibilities

  • Support and improve manufacturing processes to enhance safety, quality, efficiency, and throughput.
  • Analyze production workflows and identify opportunities for process optimization, waste reduction, and productivity improvements.
  • Develop and maintain work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), process documentation, and manufacturing routings.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI), process validation, and implementation of engineering changes on the production floor.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to resolve process or equipment-related problems.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, or other problem-solving methodologies.
  • Assist with tooling, fixture, layout, and workflow improvements to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Collaborate with production and quality teams to improve yields, reduce defects, and support corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support capacity planning, line balancing, labor optimization, and production readiness activities.
  • Participate in equipment installations, process commissioning, and manufacturing startup activities as required.
  • Track and analyze manufacturing metrics (scrap, cycle time, downtime, OEE, etc.) and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Support compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
