About The Position

This leadership role supports the purchasing and receiving functions for one of the largest pork processing operations in the country. The Purchasing Manager leads the day-to-day activities required to secure materials and ingredients, support production needs, and maintain compliance with company purchasing policies, departmental procedures, and corporate-directed contracts. This role helps ensure the efficient use of purchasing, receiving, materials scheduling, supply, warehouse, and maintenance inventory systems. Areas of support include packaging, food ingredients, maintenance, plant supplies, PPE, sanitation, and office supplies. As a partner to Operations, Food Safety, Quality Assurance, Accounting, and corporate teams, the Purchasing Manager is accountable for supporting cost-effective purchasing practices, reliable inventory availability, vendor performance, and a high-performing purchasing and receiving team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant purchasing, inventory, accounting, or supply chain experience.
  • 5+ years of purchasing, inventory, accounting, supply chain, or related experience in a manufacturing, processing, or operations environment.
  • Previous leadership experience or demonstrated ability to direct, train, and develop team members.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to process data and communicate recommendations clearly.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and support changing operational needs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with internal customers, vendors, and cross-functional teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with JD Edwards (JDE), SAP, or other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Prior experience in purchasing, inventory, supply chain, or warehouse functions within a manufacturing or processing environment.
  • Familiarity with inventory controls, purchasing workflows, and continuous improvement practices in a manufacturing or processing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop the purchasing and receiving team to support high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and the Sr. Purchasing Manager to establish procure-to-pay procedures, appropriate inventory levels, and purchasing practices that support operations in a cost-effective manner.
  • Provide oversight and direction for the timely preparation, processing, and approval of requisitions and purchase orders for materials needed to support daily operations.
  • Monitor production schedules, material needs, and inventory availability to help avoid shortages and support uninterrupted operations.
  • Provide and analyze key purchasing, inventory, and operational reports for management and department leadership.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with internal customers and vendors while providing a high level of service and supporting vendor performance.
  • Partner with Food Safety and Quality Assurance teams to help ensure new materials and ingredients meet quality standards, specifications, shipping requirements, and delivery expectations.
  • Work closely with Accounting and Corporate teams to support invoice accuracy, payment resolution, available discounts, inventory controls, obsolete material review, and process improvements.
