Manages all aspects of the purchasing department: Emphasis will be placed on cost reduction and supplier management, along with executing the purchasing strategy. The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for the quality and documentation of the supply processes. Leads the cost down effort by optimizing purchased material and product costs. Meets with suppliers to obtain mutually beneficial price concessions. Negotiates best price on new contracts, renewals, and agreements. Creates competitive bidding opportunities and other price optimizing strategies. Works with R&D to optimize cost of new product offerings. Obtains state of the art performance from suppliers. Development and maintains vendor performance metrics including supplier delivery, supplier quality, purchase price variance, and pricing. Reviews and updates approved vendor lists. Resolves vendor supply and quality problems. Develops new supply sources. Participates in the inventory optimization process. Manage the purchasing department team. Provide guidance and assistance to buyers in resolving disputes with vendors. Identify and develop training opportunities. Lead the purchasing team in on time delivery of scheduled production requirements. Prepares performance reviews for department personnel. Continually gains personal knowledge of product. Continually improve the purchasing processes. Implements procedures to ensure compliance with established standards and regulations. Continually communicates with department managers. Participates in the procurement processes of other departments. May be required to purchase and manage a critical commodity category.

Requirements

  • Contracts / long term agreements development and administration (min 5 years)
  • Working knowledge of RFP’s, RFQ’s
  • Hands on Purchasing experience in Mechanical and Electronic commodities.
  • 10 years in purchasing within manufacturing industries
  • Working knowledge of MRP II system and computer system.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of R&D processes, GLP’s, GMP’s desirable.
  • APICS (CPIM OR CSCP) or ISM (CPM) certification a plus.
  • MS D365 and SAP a plus
