The company operates a modern 110,000 square foot bakery, located five minutes from its family farm, employing 200 dedicated full-time individuals. Chudleigh’s produces delicious desserts for customers across North America and beyond. The company is seeking a Purchasing Assistant to join its team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or relevant field preferred.
  • 1-2 years of related experience in Purchasing.
  • Solid knowledge of procurement processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with sourcing and vendor management practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and ERP software.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Nice To Haves

  • Dessert Manufacturing Facility or Bakery experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification (Yellow Belt or higher).
  • Strong BRC (or similar GFSI) knowledge or experience.
  • Strong knowledge of WHMIS, Chemical Handling, HACCP, GMP, OHSA and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Create and issue purchase orders based on MRP requirements.
  • Ensure accuracy in item descriptions, quantities, pricing, and delivery terms.
  • Maintain a systematic record of all POs.
  • Follow up on PO/Invoice payments, work with AR to ensure all vendor accounts are up to date.
  • Work with the Production & Operations to ensure all project needs are identified and orders placed in ample time to receive the materials when required for manufacturing.
  • Blanket PO maintenance.
  • Create and update trade agreements in D365.
  • Work with Product Launch team to ensure all materials, process aids and packaging is on hand when required to meet launch timelines.
  • Work closely with the Buyer to ensure all operational needs are met.
  • Liaise with suppliers and vendors to update terms, pricing, and delivery schedules.
  • Resolve any discrepancies or issues related to orders promptly.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with suppliers to optimize procurement processes.
  • Collaborate with inventory control team to monitor shorts, stock levels, obsolete or expired/expiring materials.
  • Review and provide status updates on any material shortages outlined by the inventory team.
  • Assist in maintaining optimal inventory levels to prevent shortages or excesses.
  • Work with Logistics Support on the status of incoming orders and track deliveries.
  • Coordinate with logistics dept to ensure timely and accurate delivery.
  • Communicate any delays or issues to relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain vendor profiles in D365.
  • Work with Manager of Product Lifecycle to update D365 with new ingredient or packaging specifications.
  • Manage COA (Certificate of Analysis) process.
  • Collect supporting documents, update system.
  • Follow up with vendors on missing documents.
  • Liaison with shipping to ensure dates are captured correctly.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain Manager on standard cost vs actual.
  • Manage and control miscellaneous supply purchasing.
  • Work with vendor to ensure all supplies are stocked.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
  • Coordinated and resolved quality non-compliance issues regarding raw materials in collaboration with suppliers.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety requirements, and ethical standards.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in procurement.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
