About The Position

The Steel Purchasing Agent is responsible for procuring goods and services in a timely and cost-effective manner while maintaining appropriate quality standards. This role involves contract negotiation, sourcing suppliers, tracking orders, and ensuring inventory needs are met efficiently.

Requirements

High school diploma required
2+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain.
2+ years of experience within steel mills, service centers, manufacturing, or industrial distribution.
Understanding of steel grades, specifications (hot-rolled, cold-rolled, galvanized), and metal processing.
Strong negotiation and communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)
Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

Nice To Haves

a bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, or engineering is preferred.
experience with ERP systems preferred.

Responsibilities

Source and evaluate vendors based on price, quality, service, and reliability.
Negotiate delivery and contract terms.
Issue purchase orders and follow up with suppliers to ensure timely delivery.
Monitor market conditions including material costs, industry trends, inventory levels and reorder supplies as needed.
Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and technical data.
Work closely with internal departments (e.g., operations, finance, and sales) to determine purchasing needs and specifications.
Resolve issues related to delayed shipments, quality discrepancies, or supplier performance.
Ensure compliance with company policies and procurement regulations.
