About The Position

Under the direction of the Purchasing and Grants Director, the Purchasing Agent executes professional procurement functions to ensure efficient, budget-conscious, and legally compliant acquisition of goods and services across County operations. The position coordinates the full purchasing lifecycle—including requisition reviews, purchase order creation, vendor negotiations, contract administration, and competitive solicitations (RFPs, RFQs, IFBs)—while evaluating bids, conducting market research, and presenting formal recommendations to the County Commission. Operating in strict adherence to the County Purchasing Ordinance, Utah Procurement Code, and grant guidelines, the role provides ongoing technical guidance and training to County departments, maintains precise public and audit records, and cross-trains in grant administration to support broader departmental operations as assigned.

Requirements

  • At least two (2) years of professional experience in purchasing, procurement, contract administration, or finance.
  • An Associate’s degree in a related field such as Business, Public Administration, Accounting, or Finance.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience will also be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) or more years of dedicated public-sector or governmental procurement experience.
  • A Bachelor’s degree.
  • A recognized professional procurement certification (e.g., CPPO, CPP, or CPPB).
