About The Position

The Pumper (Over Water Transfer Certified) is responsible for the safe, compliant transfer of fuels, oils, and other liquids between vessels, barges, and shore-side facilities. This role ensures all pumping operations are conducted in accordance with regulatory requirements, company procedures, and environmental protection standards. The Pumper plays a critical role in preventing spills, maintaining operational efficiency, and supporting shipyard and marine operations.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend instructions written or spoken in English.
  • Previous overwater transfer experience
  • Ability to read and follow procedures, safety data sheets (SDS), and transfer plans
  • Strong situational awareness and attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills
  • Must have a can-do attitude and demonstrate the ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must be eligible to obtain DBIDs
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening
  • Must be able to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work from lifts, ladders, and scaffolding; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools and supplies and/or exert 50 lbs.; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls and machinery; to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions, to wear and work in personnel protective equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in marine fueling, pumping operations, or shipyard environment preferred
  • Working knowledge of spill prevention, control, and countermeasure (SPCC) practices
  • Education Minimum: High School Diploma
  • Preferred Minimum: Three to Five years’ experience in Over Water Transfer Operations
  • Basic computer skills
  • Over Water Transfer Certification (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Perform over water transfer operations of fuels, oils, and other liquids in accordance with certification requirements and company procedures
  • Inspect hoses, connections, valves, and transfer equipment prior to use to ensure integrity and readiness
  • Monitor transfer operations continuously to prevent overfills, leaks, or spills
  • Maintain clear communication with vessel personnel, supervisors, and dockside teams during transfer operations
  • Ensure proper placement and use of containment and spill prevention equipment
  • Respond immediately to any abnormal conditions or emergencies, including initiating spill response procedures
  • Complete required documentation, including transfer logs, checklists, and compliance forms
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and equipment
  • Adhere to all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements (USCG, OSHA, EPA, and company policies)
  • Participate in safety meetings, training, and drills as required
  • Performs miscellaneous other duties as required or assigned.
