About The Position

Indiana Internal Medicine Consultants is seeking a compassionate Respiratory Therapist or Registered Nurse to coordinate our outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program. This rewarding role combines patient care, education, chronic disease management, and care coordination to help patients improve their respiratory health and quality of life while reducing hospital readmissions.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy (Graduate of an accredited respiratory care program) OR Associates degree in Nursing
  • Certification of Registration by the National Board for Respiratory Therapy or National Society for Cardiopulmonary Technologist OR Registered Nurse
  • Training in Pulmonary Rehabilitation
  • Ability to understand and effectively work in Microsoft Outlook, practice management systems, and electronic medical record system.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, type at 40 wpm, operate a telephone, copier, fax machine, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to view and type on computer screens for long periods.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program.
  • Provide patient care, education, chronic disease management, and care coordination.
  • Check patients as referred and verify insurance coverage and benefits.
  • Schedule patient interviews, assessments, admissions, and subsequent visits.
  • Confirm patient appointments one day prior.
  • Prepare charts of accepted patients.
  • Monitor patient vital signs and oxygen saturation before and after sessions.
  • Assist patients with pulmonary rehab exercises.
  • Teach patients regarding COPD, medications, treatments, tests, and procedures.
  • Document education provided to patients.
  • Submit charges to billing.
  • Participate in ongoing Pulmonary Rehab education.
  • Check patient’s vital signs before and after maintenance sessions.
  • Monitor patient condition during rehabilitation.
  • Document daily progress notes for maintenance patients.
  • Educate and assist patients with their rehabilitation.
  • Prepare charts for next visit for maintenance patients.
  • Schedule maintenance patients for their visits.
  • Follow up with patients who are sick.
  • Assist with Reclast infusions as needed.
  • Check patients on the Reclast schedule and review lab reports.
  • Create clearance for Reclast infusions.
  • Confirm Reclast appointments one day prior.
  • Encourage the use of water prior to Reclast appointment.
  • Prepare all forms for Reclast infusion patients to read and sign.
  • Answer questions regarding IV medication (Reclast).
  • Instruct on possible side effects of Reclast and how to address them.
  • Start IV and infuse Reclast as per recommendation.
  • Submit Reclast charges to the billing office.
  • Complete required steps to maintain Pulmonary Certification annually through AACVPR.
  • Track data for the certification process.
  • Submit documentation to support the certification process.
  • Coordinate training for all employees working in pulmonary rehab.
